Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”
I don't know about this small tires business though Zane... He shouldn't be giving you any more excuses...

I have known Guy for probably 30 of my 37 years and now do his maintenance on the Pacer. The Pacer has an interesting history behind it. The original owner who brought it to the area was killed in another airplane accident and for some reason he had the airworthiness and data plate in his wallet which burned up in the wreckage and was never found. Due to that, we built up Guy's airplane for the widow and had problems getting it legal because of the missing paperwork. She finally got fed up with it and sold the airplane to another local fellow named Tony Pierce. Tony did a bunch of research and found out we could legalize the airplane using what was called the "spares and parts program" that used to be in effect at the time. It took a DAR to do it, but he checked out the airplane from top to bottom and signed it off as a Piper/Pierce PA-22-20.
Anyway, Tony traded the Pacer to Guy for an M5 Maule that Guy had at the time. Guy has had it ever since. It is a nice bird with 0-320 and UniScare tail wheel conversion. Unfortunately it sits outside and the sun has faded the paint over the years, but Guy had us repaint the top surfaces last year so she should last for another 10 years or so before it needs some more attention.
The article is a nice one on probably one of the most popular areas us Rogue Valley pilots like to go to. If you have never been, you should go there and check out the stars on a moonless night.
Brian.

Excellent story! This was actually in a newspaper? Outstanding! Maybe some non-pilots will get an idea of one of the reasons we fly.

Cessna Skywagon -- accept no substitute!
Great read. Inspires me to go out and find that lake bed and others to spend the night on.
