Not necessarily information about airstrips or airports, but more general info about a greater area or a route of flight.

Western Montana Info

I am heading to vacation in Western Montana for the next week or two. I won't be in the same town long enough to get an aircraft check out, but would like to get up and fly at some point. An internet search mostly turned up large flight schools that don't land on grass. I am looking for someone who can provide a little mountain flying instruction or some tailwheel time, basicly learn some things while seeing the sights.

Over the course of the trip we will be spending time in the general areas of Missoula, Seeley lake, Kalispell, Whitefish and maybe Cut Bank.

Any suggestions?

Yes indeed, lots of cool aircraft, being flown. Don't miss the spot landing contest, usually around 2 Saturday. Especially fun in a stiff x wind!

I'll second this recommendation. Give her a call.

You might try Red Eagle Aviation at S27: http://www.redeagleaviation.com/USA_REA_home.php

I know they do instruction and there is plenty of fun grass in the area. Not sure what type of planes they have any more or whether Dave Hoerner is still affiliated with them.

Dave is in Helena these days working for MT Dept of Aero. Otherwise they run helicopters and 172s.

If you are in the Cut Bank area give a call. I use a Maule MX7-160 for tailwheel and Maule specific training.

If you wind up in Kalipell anywhere from the 17th through the 21st, stop by the Northwest Montana Fair and come to the Draft Horse barn....we'll be there, filling half of it with Clydesdales.... we'd be glad to meet you!
