What is that airport

West of Provo Airport and west of lake utah is a valley that has two airports in it. Jake Garn is closed but just west of that is a paved strip with several hangars. It is not on the chart and I was wondering if anybody had info on it.

Re: What is that airport

One of them is probably West Desert Air Park Coord's 40* 14.588 X 112*.05.553 I think they may have auto gas. There is a guy, Mark Pringle(sp) if that is the airport that builds Rans A/C there.
I don't have another on my maps. Check UBCP airport Data base. It should be on there.

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

Re: What is that airport

Gary's correct....West Desert Airpark.. full of quanset huts and a 12' wide runway (it seems). Mostly experimentals and ultralights. There is a freindly Rans dealer out there too but never around when I've been there. There are 2 more private strips + Garn (people tell me it isn't closed, the contractor painted the X's on the runways over a money dispute) + Cedar Valley Skypark + a powered parachute strip near Garn. 5 total.

Re: What is that airport

None of the web sites that have to do with Jake Garn Airport have an up to date contact or phone for info. Looked up EAGLE MOUNTAIN PROPERTIES and found a phone number. After many calls (did not return calls) I finally got somebody and they said that the airport is closed for sure.

The one with the quansit hut hangars is the one I was talking about. If they build Rans there then I will have to stop and check it out.

That's West Desert. I'll have a number for Mark if you want it.

Re: What is that airport

I don't know how I missed this post, I'm always on the lookout for a thread that I actually know something about!
Anyway, the West Desert Airpark is kinda cool - pretty skinny for a paved runway and a lot of experimentals like has been mentioned.
We used to land at Jake Garn for fun on the gravel half because it was smoother than the paved half, and you didn't want to cross the transition between the two parts without some serious bush wheels!
I fly out of Spanish Fork (U77) so it's pretty close to me.

Take a look at the source of my posts by clicking the quote button. You don't have to reply if you do that, bit it will reveal the BBcode that I used.
