Beefing up the S-6 perhaps?

I hope to have an S-7 one day to add to the 182.

Re: Whats RANs up to?

Those gear sockets look a little too far aft for a taildragger, maybe another one forward too tho...

The rans S7 will be my next build more than likely, the highlander just barely won me over :D

Looks like an all metal S6 - I heard they had been working on that for a bit.

Re: Whats RANs up to?

There was a discussion started by Randy Schlitter on RansClan.com about a new ultralight design. "ULs are needed". He was trying to identify a low cost flying option.

He was discussing what customers would want in a new design, he was also considering electric power, he mainly was feeling out if a single seat airplane at a $15k pricepoint was viable, he thought part 103 could be the route.

Schlitter was also discussing a larger single seat backcountry airplane. Heavier than an ultralight but well within LSA. Super short off field performance with 120mph cruise, but low fuel burn.

Several pages of discussion and a lot of input, but the thread died, and nothing seems to have come of it.

That would be my guess. Looks identical to the two S-6s in the background. Except for the steel tail cone. Dope and fabric without the bigger dorsal ridge. Going to shorten build time a bunch not having to build the tail and mount it.
I like the metal baggage compartment. Plenty of room for camping gear. I wish they would add fittings for conventional gear as well. Like the Highlander. Would be nice to have the option to change.
Way too wide for an ultralight and it would have to be more aluminum and composite. They already had a low cost ultralight option. The S-4/5. Great little plane but they didn't sell a whole lot of them.

Whatever tbey are up to, they sbould keep doing it!. I'm trying to think of another kitplane company with a longer track record, with the original owner still at the helm. Vans maybe, so damn good company. I saw my first S-7 at Oshkosh '88. That sort of long term corporate stability is super rare in the kit plane world.
