Where did you fly today?
Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Great time to be playing on the river CG; water level is way down and there is some great bars out there. I'm restraining myself from exploring them till I get bigger tires since I just about ripped my gear off on my last gravel bar/beach landing.
Did go for a ride in a turbo 206 today. If only I could keep the Luscombe and buy a 206...

Had a quick flight today to take advantage of some cool clouds to the east of the airport just as the sun was setting. Was hauling ass driving home from Monterey trying to catch just the right light...would have been much better had the sun still been high enough to illuminate the plane and grass, but it still turned out ok...missed it by about 10 minutes. This was a still taken from my Contour HD cam

I taught myself how to fly hang gliders at Sand City, and lived in Carmel and Big Sur, the most beautiful part of California in my book.

Jim and I flew up to Double Circle ranch to shoot some photos and enjoy the perfect weather.

Flew low along the creek on the way home, bet we will see Jim in a plane of his own someday soon.

The set of (Sand City) does not connect with the set of (Beautiful). Carmel=yes Big Sur=yes. Sand city=no.
Just an opinion.

Beautiful to me at the time, straight into the on shore breezes perfectly shaped sand dunes. No one around either. Other then that, yeah, it was a hellhole. Good call! I just have real fond memories of the entire area, good times.

Flew down down to Tillamook for lunch at the blimp museum. Next headed up to Astoria and went into town to pick up a growler of Vortex IPA then flew the river back home.
Started out a little icky

Saddle Mountain in the Coast Range

Tillamook Head

Really high tide so I couldn't go poach any beaches.

The Ft George has pretty tasty locally brewed beer.

I've wound my way through some of the terrain south of Hwy 26 but north of Hwy 6 trying to make the coast on a low overcast day, and gotten a close look. The flora on those mountains always blows me away-- it's like the jungles of Borneo.

Seriously looks like the "Big Island" of Hawaii. I thought it was until I read the accompanying text.

I agree, the coast range is a pretty amazing place, especially when you get onto the rocky peaks. We tried to get some photos of Onion Peak south of Cannon Beach but the weather wouldn't cooperate.
I haven't done it yet, but a guy I work with says the best winter hike in the Coast Range is to snowshoe Saddle Mountain the first clear day after a snow storm.

One of my favorite memories was a cross country with my Grandpa in his Skybolt. We cut Southwestish from Chehalis to the coast then shot down to Northern California for an aerobatics competition. I can't remember what airport it was at, but it was an awesome flight down and back and a great time there. Flying the coast is an absolutely breathtaking experience!

After all of her patience during my PPL process my wifey finally got her first airplane ride as my co-pilot. A nice trip from Santa Paula up the coast over Ventura, Carpenteria and Santa Barbera then over the hill to Santa Ynez. Awesome deal on a rental car at Santa Ynez ($28/day) for the short drive into Solvang for lunch.
What an awesome feeling to finally take my sweetheart up and show her why I love it so.

You're in my old stomping grounds there Straydog! I usually fly my wife and kids down once a year to visit my family in LPC and often times have to park the plane at IZA due to the marine layer. It's a great place to visit but I'm glad you live there and I don't

. Congrats on being able to take your wife flying. I hope she loved it!
