Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Great day to spend on the river. Smooth air and lots of sunshine, a rarity for Oregon this time of the year!

Nice! Just this evening I was just showing someone our video from when we visited Chukar back in June. Such a cool place. Nice pic from up the hill.

Re: Where did you fly today?

No pics... but flew up to Prescott for a milkshake taking a newbie in the plane.. Had him fly while I listened to XM and scouted some new roads for some mountain bike packing. I was surprised to see KPRC is shifting the runway ~! Guess the faa thought the end of 21 being right at the hwy was too close.

Re: Where did you fly today?

I'm a day late, but made a quick trip up to Gravelly Valley on Sunday to sight in my new to me 22-250. Awesome day to be out flying, and there must have been at least 80 elk down in the river bottom when I landed and then out in our normal camp spot on the way out. Couple nice 6x6's in the herd. Wish I could have got a picture of them, but a little busy aviating at the time.

Nice sunset.

Found what has to be a west circuit strip but it was getting dark pretty quick, and I wanted to get back out over the valley before it was too late. Robw56 and/or AvidFlyer should know which one is this.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Looks like the Indian Valley/Wilbur Springs strip.... if it was a little southeast of the Indian Valley Reservoir then that is it. Makes sense because it is pretty much on the course going back to Lodi.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Spent 16-19 Nov. at Saline Valley hot springs, New 'Chicken Strip' was in great shape, picked-up large rocks, gravel was smooth. Windsock is almost torn off at top from sun, doesn't matter much since a one-way strip unless in a helo. South entrance was very slow-Grapevine canyon especially, I have never seen it so poor. Of course, 'road closed' signs were up from Inyo County. Every time creek crossed road-had to build road, deep washouts in valley. There are, however, several long enough places to land on the road in the valley if one needs to. The original Chicken Strip I used w/ Elmer in his 120/140 from Novato in '72 or '73? has fallen out of favor-it seems less susceptable to washouts since it is on a ridgecrest, even though it is 'hilly,' long enough, wonder why it was changed-Smokey? Signed log even though in car. Could bring some more tiedowns and a sledge next time, what length r-bar would be best?

Dropped off load of wood @ hot springs, noticed all the random trailers no longer there-great, springs pools very clean. Saw one burro, heard none, saw no snakes, scorpions. Ravens will poke hole through foam coolers, not mine. 70'sF during day, no wind, lots of other campers spread all over the place, most were courteous, hated to leave. North exit much better. Can't figure out how to enclose px w/ 'Img' note:first time, any help? Thanks

Needed to fly to Madras to renew my CCL. Berg Air is fixing the ding on the bottom of my rudder. The weather was pretty low, but I Army crawled through. hehe

Finally got time and the right weather to visit Beagle Sky Ranch for the first time in the Pacer. Heard that Kevin's (Highroad) Pacer was over. As an aspiring BCP I had to go see it.

I agree, If I had a Pacer, I'd want it set up just like Brent's.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Dropped in on a local cattle branding today. Weather is awesome around the central coast this time of year and today was just perfect for flying. All the foothills are nice and green too...good stuff.

View of the branding corrals from the air

Re: Where did you fly today?

A quick trip to the local bar, gravel bar that is. Note snow and ice.....the 20 degree temps sure help takeoffs! Less then 100' on my home strip with no wind and not really trying. Probably my last flight on the Airstreaks, almost time for the skis  ImageImage
