where to find external power port

Looking for a metal recessed 120v external power outlet to put on the plane to run the heaters in the winter. I have seen the metal ones often installed on cowlings, just wondering where to find them. Google search just showed cheap china plastic plugs.

I've used a couple of these and had good luck with them. Wire in a small LED above them so you can see from a distance if it's on or not.
Check this out at Amazon.ca
Journeyman-Pro 5278W 15 Amp 120-125 Volt, NEMA 5-15 Flanged Inlet, White Commercial Grade, 2 Pole-3 Wire, Straight Blade 110V/115V RV Replacement Plug Charger Receptacle (Front & Back Cover) https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07F6132JR/ref ... pDbGG5Z3MK
Or you can go to tanis and get it from them. Here's a link for them.

When installing it, it's handy to run a short pigtail on the inside of the cabin with a female end- lets you plug in an auxiliary heater in the cabin like a Little Buddy. I aim one up behind the panel to take the chill off the radios etc. Use a good arctic-flex type of cord from AIH.

Yea I hear ya, my 182 had that when I bought it and spoiled me when I had a 1000w heater in the cabin, nice and toasty. I'll have to drop by AIH, I saw a few plugs in the firewall, will have to cut the cord and splice it to fit though.

Also, when you mount the recessed plug, install it close to a bulkhead or so where there is some reinforcement. And, buy a small red guide light to mount near the plug. Wire the light into the airplane side of the plug. Install plug and light aft of where your engine cover extends (duh).

Now, when you plug in, if the guide light illuminates, you instantly know you have a good outlet and engine heater is getting power.

Parked in Fort Yukon overnight, I’d check for the guide light before bedtime to make sure Engine was getting heat. All it took was a quick look from the road.

You’ll be amazed at how many outlets have tripped breakers, etc, and best to find out right away, as opposed to in the morning.
