Anybody in the Boise area have a recommendation for an FBO to tie down our plane and get a rental car at KBOI? Looks like several to choose from; who has the cheapest overnight tiedown rates or waves tie down fee for fuel purchase?

Are you locked into BOI, there are two good airports a few miles away, Caldwell Industrial and Nampa.

If there Gowan was the best last time I went to KBOI. There are all the major car places there as well.

I like Wsstern. They were offering $1/gallon discount on weekends when we stopped by last July. They also provided a free shuttle to downtown hotels. I'm sure they could also get a rental car for you. Nice facility and service.

Unfortunately, we won't be in town till about 2:00PM and can't get a rental car delivered to either Nampa or Caldwell airports because the rental car agency closes at noon on Saturday.

Sounds like it's time for a Boise local BCP'er to step in and give Strata a lift.

Can't help you but I'd appreciate a PIREP at Boise myself, I will flying in there to visit the FAA propeller repair station next week sometime.

Boise is very easy to get in and out of. We were cleared to land 12 miles out. Very simple and abbreviated class C procedures in and out. We used Turbo Air for parking for three days, tie down fees were waved for fuel purchase at the self serve pumps. Fuel price last week was $4.00ga. Turbo Air is located near the threshhold of 10 right. The folks at the FBO were nice and very helpful. They drove use around to the main terminal to get our car, but also provide Enterprise cars there at the FBO if you reserve one through them.

Reviving an old thread......

I have to pick up a buddy after the BCP fly in from KBOI and haul him over to Eastern OR for a family get together. Is TurboAir the best FBO considering I have just a quick turn, or is there by some miracle ramp parking somewhere on the north side of the field I can use to go over and get my friend from the terminal and scoot? Won't need fuel or fancy service, just something within reasonable walking distance. TurboAir and Western look both to be on the south side of the field.

I use Jackson Jet Center when I need to be at the north side. It is a short walk to the terminal from there; less than 0.5 mile i believe.

It does look pretty convenient.....I guess I was concerned it looked a little ritzy for me and my 180......We'll give er a whirl and see what happens. Got any idea what ramp fees might be there? Waived with a splash of $6 fuel?

I've stopped in at Jackson a bunch of times. No fees and I have hung out and ate their popcorn and bought a soda. Nice people. I left a $5 tip a couple of times.

Next challenge is to figure out where to land in Eastern OR......Called today on the Miranda strip in Long Creek, owner said no can do. His lawyer got to him, won't accept a waiver of liability I offered. Vigorously scouting the local FS roads, open areas and pastures via Google Earth around Dale to find something close to the gathering. Hope I don't have to go all the way to Monument.

I don't know anything about that area. But, it looks like Monument or John Day are your two best options for public airports?

Turbo Air has always been a good choice for us.

Don't land in a meadow or scab flat around Dale without someone walking it first. I used to work for the forest service in that area. Every time I needed 10 smoke jumpers I ordered 12 because 2 would twist their ankles on the watermellon size rocks hiding in the grass.
