which is more for the money

Which do you get more for your money with Cessna 180 or Stinson 108-3 with O-470

the cessna is more plane and more money. the biggest disadvantage of the stinson is the smaller doors and cables running through the baggage area, if you can live with that it will save you quite a bit of money.
if you dont need a tail dragger you can get a early 182 for around the same money as a stinson, they are the best buy out there right now in my opinion.

Right now I am working for my ppl in a 170B and right now I don't have any time in a trike but the 182 might be am option in the future.

If you can afford a Cessna 180, hands down it's more plane. A Super Stinson is a great plane, but it lacks the overall utility that the 180 has. Which is a better value? If you can find a good Super Stinson near 30K, it's an superb value, but so is a good C180 near 50k (it really boils down on which you prefer and how much you want to spend). Watch out for the 0-470-A which ever plane you get.

Other than the reduced resale, no cowl flaps and the insecurity amongst real skywagon owners, what the downside of a faker? There seems to be some decent ones in the 40's nowadays.

A 180 is my primary airplane so consider my opinion biased toward 180s but if I was looking for a less expensive 4 place airplane I'd find a good Pacer, preferably with 180hp, and save my pennies to convert it into a Producer. They're fine airplanes as they are but Producers can play STOL with the Cubs and still haul 4 people when they need to. Available as certified or experimental. No offense to the Stinson crowd, I'm just calling it how I see it. The record short landing at the Valdez STOL competition was set this year, by a Producer. A four place airplane. That's impressive.

I looked at stinsons before we bought our 180. The insurance on the stinson seemed higher, because the parts are tough to come by.

Another thing to consider is finding someone to work on the stinson. Not every shop wants to work on old fabric planes, but everyone will work on a Cessna.
