No sweat here either...

Like you I have now flown my 180 on all three applicable tires, and guess what? For my missions it mostly stays on Goodyears This week it is going on 31s again, because next week it's going to the Wrangells

I didn't state my post well, but my whole point was fit the tire to the mission... I get the impression that Kevin doesn't need his 180 to travel much, and really just uses it as a bush beater, so I really couldn't see an advantage to the smaller wheel, but again I don't know him or his mission.

My opinion on the BW 26s? I think of them in the same light as Wheel skiis, and Ampigs.... They sure fit the need for what they are designed for. But in doing so they will cost you speed over 8.50s, and they will not follow a decent stick with 31s.... all compromises...

BTW, the only reason my 180 doesn't live on 26" Bwheels is because the goodyears were free and deal with the frequent pavement my 180 sees better. My ideal compromise is probably going to be the 29-11-10s.....

Well gang...I am in some serious trouble....(the wife does not know yet)

I got some BW's today. Spoke to WUP today personally (for those of you who dont know who WUP is, he makes the BW) for sometime and he convinced me to get the 29's. I was locked and loaded on the 31's and he convinced me the other way. He said if I had a cub or a different aircraft he would get the 31's but given its a Cessna he said he would go with the 29's for a lot of reasons.

He did say 31's are great for the big rock, long prop, flat landing stuff but there not the best for beach landings, side hill landings etc. I am not certain how much more side wall the 31's have over the 29's but he did say is what quite a bit. I told him I thought I wanted the 31's if for know other reason than my ego and he said I should get the 29's and in the long run I would be much happier. I asked about the kevlar in the 31's and he said the 29's are two-ply rubber and extremley durable. He did say it comes down to how I fly on them. Slow turns on pavement, dont skid the brakes, etc. Common sense stuff.

I then asked about some of those that I truly look up to, (Mr Klaus, amoung others) as to what they are flying. Klaus flies 31's on his cub and 29's on his 180.

I then called my buddy at lake hood and had him tell me what most are running on the 180/185 specific...he looked around and said 29's.

Regardless of how large my new tires are, Bumper I will be flying more than 4 hours at a time and my penis feels much larger than Lowriders and Splash pilot now for certain!

I hope that I made the correct choice... There are paid for...and I am in big trouble...

I went the contrary route... I went with the 29x11x10 tundra tires. When it came down to it, I looked at the other 170s around Lake Hood and saw a few with these and only one with the BWs. They get installed on Weds, so I hope I made the right decision. Guess we'll see.

Didn't tell the wife yet. I figure I will when I take her out clamming...

907 are those 29's the Air Hawks? I have those on my 182. Great tire! Just a bit heavy but no matter. They have heald up forever.

Matt- Damn you got me there but, Long and thin gets it in... but short and thick...now thats a .......(you can fill in the blank so I dont get banned)

Anxious to get em on. Waiting for WUP to get the Cleveland wheel kit to come in and then there on! If I am lucky they will be here by weeks end or so.

they are all great tires. The 29s are a little stiffer then the 31s. The 31s do have more bulge when turning. Just remember to turn slow when taxiing. They work great when landing in the rocks and they look great on a Stinson.
You will like them alot when you get them.

Do you have the original gear legs on your A model? I would like to hear how the original gear handles a heavy tire like that as opposed to the stiffer lady legs or early 180 gear.

Could be a good deal for someone...29's for $750...but maybe not

I will let you know... I get the bird back on Friday night hopefully...

Wup, cleveland wheels and brake kit is here... Gotta pick it up at the delivery company today ..they wouldn't leave it on the doorstep...Butch

I have the original gear as well. They swapped to the lady legs some time in 53' but my 170 was built before the change.

Double puck cleveland brakes and a set of 6 inch wheels... in custody....

Iceman FINALLY ordered a month ago......

no prob... gonna have them on Monday... gotta call Maule tomorrow and have them send me the drawing so's it'll say in the log book it's ok to put them on the Maule and they 're approved by Maule to go on my M4..... STC only has Cessna's listed on it. Butch....PS. anybody want to buy a set of single puck cleveland brakes..work well with less than 100 Hrs on the pads.....
