WhirlWind Aviation propellors

Anyone have experience with WhirlWind Aviation props? I've looked at them before and am considering them again. They have recommended their 200A blades because I'll have over 200hp. I've been planning on using a 82" McCauley C203 which is commonly found on Cessna 182s. I just want to be sure I won't lose any performance, both in takeoff and cruise, if I go with a WhirlWind.

Check with Clint at Vetterman exhaust. He just put one on his experimental, and sounds like he is pretty happy.
You can also check his progress on FB. , search Clint Busenitz.

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

I have the WWA-210 with the WWA-P920 governor on my Super Cub. Seems great. Good, prompt, customer service. No complaints.

They certainly have very good customer service from my experience. Always been happy to answer my list of questions very thoroughly without frustration. That's rare these days it seems.

Ran one on an RV, wonderful prop and the nickel leading edge looked like brand new after 250 hours

Thanks Hoeschen. Guess it's a good thing I didn't buy that C203 from you.

I'm moving forward with this and if all goes well I'll have a WW 200A mounted to a flying Bearhawk by the end of 2017...maybe.

Re: WhirlWind Aviation Propellors

Whats the deal, there is two different whril wind props. One's located in Ohio, and has the constant speed and ground adjustable but they are heavy. http://www.whirlwindaviation.com/props/STOLGseries.asp

The other is in CA and has the carbon fiber ground adjustable and its pretty light https://whirlwindpropellers.com/aircraf ... 200l-stol/

Re: WhirlWind Aviation Propellors

Tom,

Here is a partial explanation that a guy posted on another site:

"Whirlwind aviation and whirlwind propellers.
2 deferent companies . Whirlwind propellers , which mine is {"GA200L 78" & 18lbs and 20 min. adjust time} and whirlwind aviation like Goza used ? [STOL 210G , &44 lbs and FAST adjust time], but they used to be one company and then split.
WW aviation makes certified props, mostly constant speeds but also make the VERY good ground adjustable STOL G210 , & WW propeller makes only exp. props none of which are constant speed so a lighter hub but can not be converted to a constant speed.
WW propeller does make props for 912s and all kinds of exp , airboats & even make blades for the M14P Russian radial , if they can make a blade that hold up to these beast I am not worried on my 0320 . If I understand it right WW propeller still makes the blades for WW aviation ? BUT my blades are NOT the same design as the STOL G210 that Goza and others like so well. "

Re: WhirlWind Aviation Propellors

Tom,

Here is the answer from the 'boss'. :)

I was contacted by somebody who saw this thread, and they asked me if I could clear up some questions. I’ll give a few quick answers here, and then if there are more questions, please feel welcome to call or email me directly, or post them up here in the forum.

First, Whirl Wind has two divisions. Whirl Wind Aviation (WWA) is our constant-speed propeller division, and Whirl Wind Propellers Corporation (WWPC) is our ground-adjustable propeller division. All propellers from WWA and WWPC are experimental category only.

WWPC offers several engine specific ground-adjustable propeller options for both LSA and STOL type aircraft. For Super Cub type aircraft powered by Lycoming 320 / 360 (based) engines, we offer the GA200L-STOL ground-adjustable propeller. The GA200L-STOL is available in diameters from 82” down to 76”, with bolt sizes of ½”, 7/16”, or 3/8”

You can view the GA200L-STOL propeller on our website here, but I am not able to post the link in this thread for some reason.

The price of the GA200L-STOL in any of the above diameters is currently $2950 USD (includes the hub, blades and hardware). We offer an optional 12” Cub style spinner that is trimmed, fitted, and ready to fly. The 12” spinner comes in either a white primer coat, ready for paint $335 USD or a gloss carbon finish $356. Lead-times runs about 1 week.

WWA offers many great constant-speed propeller options, as well as one ground-adjustable option for Lycoming 360 powered STOL type aircraft, the 200G and the 210G. These are based on the constant-speed propeller hub.

Sincerely,
-Patti

Re: WhirlWind Aviation propellors

Have been around and own ground adjustable from WWPC. Seem to be extremely well made, and the service is awesome. No waiting month after month for someone to whittle out a prop or a set of blades. They can also find the Post Office, which is a big deal where I live.

Re: WhirlWind Aviation propellors

My ears were burning Gary!! Now I know why!
Other than the 6 lbs extra weight the WW stol prop is pretty awesome.
Setting it to 2400 static gave me a lot more takeoff performance than the 82x40 catto and roughly the same cruise speed.
2300 static gave slightly better takeoff performance than the catto and 7-8 more mph at WOT.
The catto would only turn to 2250 static so I'm sure I could have more takeoff with a slightly flatter catto but that would have cost me more on the top end.
This airplane I've got has a wider speed range than a cub so for me, the ww prop is more versatile.
Now just to clarify, I'm not dissing Craig Catto or his props. I've run 4 of them now on different planes I've had. They've always been super friendly and have stood behind their product 100%.

Hello stranger! Just wondering what you are flying now, didn't you sell your '11?

Re: WhirlWind Aviation propellors

Hi Keith, I sold the -11. I've got this contraption with c-150 wings and a tandem cubish fuselage and 0-320. So far I like it. Especially the extra speed. I can't figure out how to post a picture here or I would.

Re: WhirlWind Aviation propellors

Back when I was building my RV8, there seemed to be lots of talk about whirlwind props on the vansairforce website. I haven't ben on there lately, but you could do some research there.
