I don't know what's worse, wrecking a brand new Carbon Cub or the razzing from Rob! :P

Glad the guy is okay. That's got to suck though.

We can send him this to use as a template for his explanation: :D

Anonymous wrote:Egads I suck! But of course I have excuses galore! _______ right, that was my 2nd solo landing in a Carbon Cub. At the time of the landing I had a total of 3hrs in it, of which 2.5 were in cruise getting there. That was the first day I had flown a Carbon Cub. I did 5 landings here with the boss, then I flew to _______ for gas, then _________. First time landing ______ also. But I figured out my problem. Up to and including that landing I was flying final at 55mph. And at _______ I wanted to 3 point it. Well Vr is 40mph...so duh....it's gonna go fly again when I try to bring the tail down. It got much better after that landing, and now I'm flying final at 45mph...plane stalls at 35 or less... Weird getting used to something flying so slow.

Whitefish is right next to Deadfish. It's just been dead longer.

Re: Witefish Mt man crashes new plane

I have a friend that said the only thing he could think of, halfway through the crash, was "I am never going to hear the end of this from those airport guys". Wasn't thinking of drowning, destroying
the airplane, or anything else. Trouble is, he is still correct, 20 years later.
Tough crowd.

Re: Witefish Mt man crashes new plane

Insurance rates are gonna head north on those babies, methinks. Happened with the Husky, the Maule, now everybody's gonna be a "bush pilot".

There ARE instructors out there, folks.

Yes there are, and it's highly encouraged and recommended for every one of our sales, but not always done.

Re: Whitefish Mt man crashes new plane

I don't know the guy. I'll bet he is an all right guy. He has great taste in airplanes. Not laughing at him, more like with him.

I know my day is coming.

We have seen the best of the best ball planes up. Any of us who think we are immune are kidding ourselves.

I just hope when I bend mine I'm not doing something stupid like trying to land in a 35KT crosswind on a 30" wide runway.

There are unfortunate wrecks, and there are the, WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING WRECKS.

Cheers...Rob

I know, I know the manufacturers do their best on this front. I've seen folks buy brand new Huskys for many dollars, and refuse or at least not bother, to take a few hours of dual in the airplane. Sometimes it works out fine, sometimes it doesn't.

One thing the Husky shares with the Carbon Cub: Toe Brakes. They work REALLY well. I'm betting those were involved in this gig.

Re: Whitefish Mt man crashes new plane

From the CubCrafters Forum, 05/27/2011: "The JC fly-in usually attracts over 120 Cubs of various flavors and is quite an event. CC staff puts on a dinner on Saturday night complete with beer, n/c to all attendees. Our Idaho/Nevada dealer, Royce Anderson of Horsefly Aviation, is sponsoring dinner on Friday night. Heck, free food and beer, fellow Cub drivers, fantastically beautiful Idaho environment, great fly-out destinations from JC, what's not to like? We hope to see you there!"

The plane belonged to Horsefly Aviation, LLC. From this I assume Royce is a good guy.

It takes a big man to cry. But it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

Re: Whitefish Mt man crashes new plane

It was an inventory plane of Royce's as he's a CC dealer. Our dealers had just sold that plane to a customer.
