Elko, Nevada: Private plane landing in Kittridge Canyon scares residents
By CALEY COOK — Elko Daily

ELKO — A small plane that landed on a private runway in Kittridge Canyon on Monday afternoon prompted worried calls to law enforcement, but despite coming in low in high winds, the pilot and plane were perfectly fine, said Elko County Undersheriff Clair Morris.

Dispatch received calls from weather service employees — who were working in a tower above Kittridge Canyon — saying that the plane looked like it had crashed, Morris said.

Deputies ran to the scene and found the pilot was fine despite a bumpy landing.

"He comes in and out of there all the time," Morris said. "All was well."

That's peculiar. Was there before...now gone. I did a straight copy and paste so what was in the weblink is what is pasted above.

Edit: Just re-pasted the link. should work again...for now.

Re: Who's been scaring the neighbors?

That's our buddy Hal in his S7 landing at his house on the knarliest strip I've ever seen. He got a good laugh out of it when the deputy knocked on his door asking for him. Turns out someone at the dispatch center suggested they talk to Hal before getting too carried away with a search. Unfortunately, Hal said they also dispatched a helio to start looking at the same time. He told them they could send it back since they'd never spot the plane since it was in his hangar.

What's the coordinates. Id like to try landing it in GE flight sim. The Cirrus with 20 flaps Is somewhere between a Cessna 17XX and a cub. If it works out in GE sim It is doable in reality. Cirrus with 40 flaps is like a draggy float plane. No shit, very realistic.

Re: Who's been scaring the neighbors?

I was thinking it might be Hal, I bet he set them straight pretty quick, glad it all worked out!

I think I've been littering my neighborhood, for 2 days now I've been waiting for my blue windbreaker type jacket to turn up. I've looked all over the shop, house and hangar, in the crane, etc., and am gradually coming to the realization that I lost it out the airplane on one of my photo shoots over town. Damn, I hate when that happens, I have some sort of vortice that sucks light items out of the aft baggage bay and ballistically fires them out my flip out window, leaving other nearer and lighter items unscathed. I lost another one 2 years ago, and got complacent again. Luckily it didn't cause a problem (covering the windshield of a loaded school bus comes to mind) and no one bitched or even noticed 8)

Oh Geez.......... Is Tom in trouble...........
Pocatello News Gazzette

" On Monday a Blue windbreaker landed on the windshield of a schoolbus carrying 78 kids. The driver lost control and swerved off the road and into a canal with fast flowing, 35 degree water. The bus had 77 indian kids from the Fort Hall Indian Reservation and since those injuns aren't the sharpest knives the the drawer they all drowned. Additionally, the driver of the bus was a blonde female and she perished too when she tried to plug in her hair dryer while standing in a puddle. The medical examiner pronounced all victims deceased on scene, altho a few claimed they were still alive.. Upon further examination it was determined that those injun kids were habitual liers and the ME discounted their claims... The Bannock sheriffs office is asking the public to come forward with any information on where the blue windbreaker came from. They can be contacted at 1-800- smoke -signals.. :^o :D

You were spot-on with your guess Tom. How did you know?   Anytime anyone around here is asked about a plane doing something unusual, he is the first person that comes to mind!

I've got a feeling if you lived closer, it would be a toss-up =D>

I probably shouldn't disclose Hals location without his permission. Bear in mind this isn't a strip per say and isn't charted. It is a narrow road cut into the side of a hill and requires a steep approach over a power line and then threading the wings between the hill on one side and trees and fence posts on the other. From the power line on one end to the drop-off on the other end is a little over 600-feet long. the vertical profile is "U" shaped with about a 15' elevation drop. There is often a cross wind and it is at about 5,300 feet elevation. I've looked at it many times from the ground and the air and I just won't risk my plane on it. Even Hal will only use it solo. I'm sorry to say with the wing span of the Cirrus you wouldn't stand a chance even if you could get in short enough. I admire your spirit to try it though!
