Why I like this Backcountry Pilot web site.

:D
Merry Christmas everyone!
Now that I have been up for about six hours and the kids are taking a nap.I am taking a break here on Christmas day on the PC sharing my thoughts on this website.
I really like the way there is no stuffy heads here about this is a one type aircraft page or if it is not a Cessna or Piper or etc. your not bitchin like us. I have to laugh at those poor souls who have not been able to reach out and relize we are all fortunate to be flying anyway. Some sites are stuck on there type only and are like that at some back country strips also. Hell I would hate to just have one airplane.I guess it would be like only be with one woman.Man just think for those of you that have had more than one aircraft type or have had other women though the years. What I may be thinking and will just keep it at that. You learn a lot from them. There are some sites that think there plane type is the cats meow and others out there are not. Hell I had four different planes in one year . I liked them all but I always want something else.My stuff is always for sale in my mind. There is always another one out there.Looks to me when some people stay with one type they worship it and get blinded. There is nothing wrong with that.Unless it is like the guy we remenber in high school who had that 73 pinto and thought it was the best thing since sliced bread. The one with a set of traction bars and baby moons and all. Yeah man what a pile of crap. But you know the guy that still has it is the one I am talking about.
Why are there airplane clubs out there like that? Have you ever gone dirt bike riding with a bunch of guys and everyone rides the same bike.NO.
I see some guys buy there first plane and think it is the best one out there.Ok maybe at first when we get it for about three months or so we may feel that. But come on man try something else. Take a ride with someone and explore what is out there.
I see this in other forms on other sites. The ones with Mr. Brain no it all I am the best.Come on up here you flat lander . We have guys sell there planes up here to guys in the mid East. Sometimes the buyer will not fly across the moutains to get home.Someone here will fly it to Bozeman or so.Whilel the buyer rents a car and drives there. Then the pilot has to drive the rental back home. When I fly over flat land I get concerned shitless (Zanes word) I feel lost and get bored real fast kind of like the way I am right now. IIII LikE iT !!
Thanks for a great site!

I was flying in a maule here not long ago.On short final with flaps the center pulley behind the rear seat up on top for the flaps broke off.The flaps slammed back and the term Concerned shitless was in your mind. After seeing how the weld was a bird crap looking pile that did not penetrate the pulley bracket made me see things different about the plane. Some wet towels on the fabric and a good welder it was flying . I still like the Maule aircraft for what it can do.

Squaretail,

Glad to see you like the sentiment of the site. I agree-- I'd rather go flying my buddies, and I don't care what airplane they have as long as we can keep up with each other. Back when I flew ultralights (I still do, actually) it seemed like everybody had a different airplane, and all anybody cared about was getting out and getting bugs in his teeth, and it was actually fun to see the different types up close and personal.

The type websites are very important, and I post on supercub.org regularly. Actually many of the guys on this site are migrants from supercub.org, which is a great community of over 2700 members. I read tic170a.org regularly but I rarely post for fear of being censored. Though now that i have the 170 I will probably become more active. I'd like to get some more Champ(ion) guys on here too, the Bellance-Champion cub website has a great forum.

I figure, the more forums the better. This site will always be free, and I hope I can always do it without accepting donations. If I can make some friends and learn from other pilots, it will all have been worth it. Thanks for joining and I look forward to your posts in the future.

One thing that is nice about flying with other airplanes of the same make/model is that everybody's capabilities are pretty well matched, at least as far as equipment is concerned. But it's kind of a bummer when one guy always has to pull the power way back, or one guy has to always firewall it, or one guy can't go into the sort of places everyone else can. Examples: a 180 is a flight of 170's,a 170 in a flight of 180's,or a 152 in a flight of Supercubs. Not that it can't be done, of course, it just works a little better and is more fun when everybody's on pretty much the same page.

Hello
I know about the flying part with different makes and models,Maybe my motorcycle ride was out there for that.I am saying the websites.
Like if a guy has a 59 182 converted to a tail wheel. To the 180/185 club it is not the same.Same for straight tail 172 converted to a tail wheel in the 170 club. Try to talk 0-300 on the swift site and let them know you have a 170 or a champion talking to the aeronca site. Yes you can and I do learn a lot from one type clubs, but I feel they are stuck on themselfs and type. I do not see it here and really like seeing that.
I see on some sites the moderator tells the new post we have talked about it and to do a search on it. It comes with an attitude of you are boring me or this has already had discussion.Hell who cares if you are on this damm PC typing in a conversation give him one man.I am on here because I am bored and have shit for weather and they let me out of the cell for one hour a day to read or send letters.

I hope this site keeps growing because it seems like it should draw a broad group of pilots with many different planes. My only other experience is with the Super Cub site which has a very wide group of people, and they don't seem to be stuck on only Cubs. Most of the folks there seem to have at least one other plane and appreciate them all. I am blessed with a Cub and a 180, and I dream about having some other variety some time. I try not to view my planes as an asset, because if I do they might turn into trading stock and if I ever get rid of either of them I will have to get up every morning and kick myself in the butt for being so stupid...............Ron
