Wild wx, extremes, hot, cold, wind, etc.

9 miles east of my home airport in Troutdale, Or is a place known for wind. Crown Point. This is why we get some very strong wind at KTTD. It keeps the fog away too.

The weather phenomenon that surprised me most when I lived up there was the ice storms. I know that they are common place all over the country but I'd never been some place where your entire car would be sealed shut with over half an inch of ice. Next big ice storm Ron, get some pictures. It's also surprising that the Columbia River can freeze nearly all the way across. I think maybe it was '95? when it looked like Alaska for a few days there along the river near Troutdale and Vancouver. And I for sure remember the wind storms. Common really. Though we lived further north along the Columbia in Woodland/Kalama we did have gusts to 100.

Re: Wild wx, extremes, hot, cold, wind, etc.

I couldn't wear my hearing aids yesterday because my ears were hurting inside. I wonder if it was the high pressure? I guess its a good thing I don't live at Sea level.

The Density Altitude at Ellensburg right now is Minus 1600 feet. My little underpowered Kitfox would climb like a rocket.

Highest Pressures in Northwest History
I am always intrigued by all-time history weather records and it appears we are experiencing one right now:

The highest sea level pressure ever recorded at some northwest stations. For others it is the highest December sea level pressure on record.

Some folks are complaining about strange sinus pain and headaches, among other maladies. I know I am feeling a strange tightness in my head.

And the pressure is still rising as I write this!

TV news this morning said today was the highest pressure ever recorded in Seattle, ever. According to Skyvector, right now SeaTac is 30.61 & NAS Whidbey is 30.66.
