Wow. I love the visual effects the quad copter gets with the panning shots of the takeoffs and landings! My Christmas list just keeps getting longer and longer...

Re: Willamette River Flying **Video Added**

Thanks Guys.

Always enjoy checking out new spots. We didn't really land very many places this time, although there are a lot of bars to land if you wanted to.

This bar was fun so we just hung out and took turns flying and filming, Short enough to keep you honest, but long enough to play and film without having to think about it to much. The river was running on one side, and there was a still "pond" on the other. When hydroplaning up onto the bar, you could feel the difference of the speeds of the water on the left main vs right. As I was flying, I had a couple visions of catching the left main in the slow water and ground looping into the pond. Nice when those "visions" come before an incident, rather than after

The upriver end had a small "high bank" that you needed to clear when down river. The grass and trees on the island just up river caused some unstable air and required a lot of throttle jockeying if landing down river.

In the hour or so we were on the bar, the wind changed several times and was blowing different directions up river vs. down. It was a good reminder of why you need to be prepared to spend the night if you pick a spot to land that is going to require everything you and your aircraft have to get out of. I've gotten to the point that I almost always have a tent/pad/sleeping bag in the Maule if I am out playing so that if I make a poor decision, or conditions change, it is easier to make the next decision a good one, and not force a departure etc.

Choss is getting very proficient at the tricycle "plunk and dunk" technique! My Dad and I both commented on how he can put that thing down right where he wants. Pretty cool.

No, nothing spiritual, so to speak.

I have found that the more I fly, the more it seems that "feelings" or "sensations", that I experience through the seat of my pants turn into "pictures" in my mind of what is going to happen next if action is not taken.

A healthy and active foresight is the cornerstone of avoiding all the bad stuff: Car wrecks, plane wrecks, getting mugged, etc. Although just as often as it's allowed me to avoid disaster, I've proven myself a soothsayer; perhaps just self-fufilling the prophecy. 8)
