Woe is Me

Sharon (wife of 40 years) asked the other day if we could go to Idaho. Having flown there on several ocations with her I was all for it. Then I was hit with the dreaded two words. ROAD TRIP.

We are leaving on Monday morning for a road trip to Idaho. Arg. We will be going from Yreka, CA area up hwy 97 to Klamath falls OR, east to Lakeview then north to Burns, OR. We will head east to Boise area then head north on hwy 95.

The question for the Idaho folks is where is the best Burger in that part of the state. Also the best home made pie.

Maybe we should go to Denio Junction from Lakeview then through Fields and up to Burns. Goal is no interstates.

Maybe I should keep the spot on so my every turn on the windey road can be appreciated by all. Gee, I wonder if I will wish I were flying. :? :?

5.5 hrs from here. Maybe Fields for a shake then north and camp at Alvord Desert for the night.

Re: Woe is Me

I almost cried when my wife informed me we were driving to the Kenai Peninsula for the fishing trip instead of flying this year

That is, until I saw the weather upon our arrival

Re: Woe is Me

I enjoy road trips sometimes, and looking over the countryside from a zero AGL perspective. Just as you see things when flying that you don't see driving, the opposite is also true. Have fun.

If you get near Boise, go north on 55 to horseshoe bend and eat at Kits Riverside inn. One of the best burgers around!

When I'm on a road trip & looking for good food, I use two books: $100 Hamburger, and Jane & Michael Stern's Road Food. Works well, always had a good meal.

Baloney is still baloney, no matter how thin you slice it.

Re: Woe is Me

On a road trip, I usually stick to the chains: McD's, Denny's, etc. Ditto for motels. Maybe a bit boring, but no big surprises either. (usually surprises at eateries or motels are a bummer)

Re: Woe is Me

Best shake so far is Fields Station. Burger was good too. Best place to move to so far is Weiser, ID.

Re: Woe is Me

Hey Tim
Just pulled up your spot.
Looks like either Tipsy ate it, or you fell of the wagon  .
Strangest track I ever saw. Maybe best that you did take the car.
Have fun.

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

Re: Woe is Me

Well, you are not going to be too far from Silver Lake, Oregon and the best steak in the world, the Cowboy Dinner Tree, just a couple of miles south of Silver Lake. They are only open Thursday through Sunday and, believe it or not, reservations are required.

It takes a big man to cry. But it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

Re: Woe is Me

I see there are a couple forest service strips in the area. How far from the steakhouse is the nearest strip?
Thanks Gary

Re: Woe is Me

Gary,
Mahogany mt. strip is right across the street and the owner is a cool guy who is happy to have you land for dinner. He only asks that you call and let him know and will ask you to give him a call after you leave to let him know you made it Home safe. When you make your dinner reservation they can give you his number .
