Wyoming Strips..

For my own education, and to share the state I love with others, ill be poring over maps charts internet grandparents barflys cowboys and pilots young and old to attempt to compile a list of Wyomings best, or least known (probably long forgotten) dirt, grass or sagebrush airstrips. When they're private, ill attempt to list contact etc... when possible I'll get pertinent data and photos and attempt to follow Zanes format. Stay tuned.... I'll make it happen.

Re: Wyoming Strips..

WYpilot, welcome to the site. I appreciate your willingness to help compile information here about airstrips in your state. What I would suggest is signing up for Shortfield.com and adding your info to their database as well, since they are geared for airstrip data, PiReps, mapping, and photos. If the strip you want to update is not in their system, email Chris the info about name, lat/long, details, and status and he'll add it. We have a link to them in the main menu and will continue to partner with them for airport/airstrip data and mapping.

Thanks.

Re: Wyoming Strips..

Awesome. I want to come visit. I'd like to see a boat load more of the Colorado strips documented as well. Last I checked there were only 4 on shortfield.

Re: Wyoming Strips..

WYPilot,

A small group in CO is doing the very same thing that you're thinking about doing. It's a pretty committed process, but one that's very rewarding. I'll send you a PM with my contact info and perhaps I can help you get started. Also, I believe WY has a RAF Liaison, you may want to contact him to see if any efforts are already being done.

Re: Wyoming Strips..

A friend of mine from Chugwater WY is also doing this same thing as he has flown to and knows a lot about WY strips. I will contact him after Christmas and see how he's doing. Maybe this could be a joint effort.

Re: Wyoming Strips..

Wyoming probably has more off airport opportunities then even Idaho....lots of really high ridges that are easily landable, like 8 to 10 K (that I can think of right off) and for some reason to me they eyeball 5 or 6 K high. A very interesting state geologically speaking, amazing really. Different, slightly, terrain then Idaho and several times after landing some Wyo ridge I was amazed when looking at the altimeter! Hope that helps #-o

Agreed on the terrain.... if it just weren't for all that gall-dang wind! ;-)

I went to the SF site and was not able to enter the stats for my private strip here in Wyoming... #-o #-o

It is a FAA registered airport, 2WY3.....

Re: Wyoming Strips..

To add new airports you have to email or pm Chris. I'm not sure why his site isn't set up to allow registered users to add themselves.

I am not sure either why I can't enter my airport........ There must be some logical reason for it though. #-o

I don't mean to nitpick, but I think that's redundant. :D

Excited to hear about your project, and I plan to spend as much time as I can trying to find new places to add to the list!

Spoke to him about it yesterday. His FAA data is a little stale, and more recent additions to the sectional aren't reflected.

Re: Wyoming Strips..

Thread revival...

I'm looking forward to my next aviation adventure and I would like to do some flying in Wyoming, particularly the western part of the state. I have looked around the usual places (airfield.guide, shortfield.com, etc.) for some off-the-beaten-path airfields that permit low-impact camping but haven't found many.

Does anybody have any info they'd be willing to share, or another place I should look?

Thanks!

Miracle Mile looks like a cool place. It’s about 30 miles northeast of Rawlins.

Re: Wyoming Strips..

Well once again my wife is talking about moving back to her home state of Wyoming, so I guess I better start paying attention to the Wyoming strips.....again.
Was this original project ever finished?
