Thanks for sharing. Depending on how spray season is going I hope to burn up in my 206.

Quick blast up to Yellowknife for the fly in.

Two up in my 170, and a friend in his RV8. Those things are fast, but I think it was less fun poking along at 500 AGL in low vis at 150 than at 65.

Four legs up there, from the coast. Quesnel, Dawson Creek, High Level and then into Yellowknife. Left here early and had good weather all the way except the last leg. Was 4 miles vis at Hay River in smoke, but really not that bad. We were tired for the last leg so that was the toughest part. Pretty warm all the way.

Joe McBryan met us at the ramp, drove us back to his hangar and lent us a truck for the night. A real gentleman. We got a U-Drive after that (his term)

Yellowknife is clearly a huge aviation town, the airport was buzzing day and night, as well as the floatplane dock downtown.
Formal tour of Buffalo Air on the Friday, and its a slick operation. As you can imagine genuine characters, but surprisingly welcoming after all the fuss. We tried not to be too obnoxious. Chuck gave us a tour of the Electra.

Saturday was a fly out to Great Slave Lake lodge for lunch, Floats and gravel strip, then a BBQ in the everning. The welcome was amazing, and the organization great. Thanks Cynthia and her helpers. They were all just very kind.

Theres a lot of this up there:

Strip at the lodge:

The lodge had a real old school vibe, and gave us a great lunch. My only regret was not seeing a musk ox.

Didn't get a photo but we had amazing Fish and Chips on the island, really great whitefish form Great Slave Lake.

Re: Yellowknife Bush Pilot Fly-In (July 18 and 19, 2025)

It didnt get dark all night, and weather leaving was a concern. No weather radar, and NavCan forecast was very vague and honestly weak. Only time I can ever say that. We left early and struggled to High Level, low vis in rain and mist, down to 500 AGL and just about to turn around or stop at Hay River when we got on the road. In retrospect should have turned around earlier and found it. Wide and open with no power lines and almost zero traffic so I Followed Road to High Level. Broke out into sunshine just before. After that it was racing summer convection back to the coast. Couldnt go direct so Lilloet, Pemberton Squamish back to the coast.

All in all a great summer trip, I had booked the time off for Osh, but this was different and really good. Nice people, some cool planes and a part of Canada that I had never seen. Just makes me want to go back and spend more time. We were only 300 mile from the Arctic Ocean, silly not too have gone further really.

There were several other planes from the coast on wheels, and some from Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba on wheels and floats. I think they had a worse time of it than us with smoke.

Again thanks to the organisers, and to everyone we met. Nice town with a real Northern Vibe.
