Your costs, Zane?

Hey Zane,

So have you gotten rich off of BCP yet?

But seriously...I just had a conversation with someone else in the aviation community about the site here, who was under the impression that it was a profit making venture. Would it be appropriate to ask how much of your own money you have put into your project over the years? Have you ever asked the "members" here to donate to defer costs?

If you want to tell me to pound sand that's fine, this is NOT a criticism of any kind - more of a solicitation to have you blow your own...well...Horn.

T-shirts

I love mine although there is a heated debate on here about them.

Re: Your costs, Zane?

Hahahahaha....profit. That's funny.

I make a few hundred bucks off Google advertising every year, that covers hosting. When I sell shirts, that nets another couple hundred.

As a software developer, I charge per hour about what a good IA at an FBO does, so BCP actually costs me money to spend time on it. If this WAS a for-profit venture, it would be a hell of a lot better than it is. Have you ever heard the phrase "the cobbler's children go unshod"?

I am slowly making progress on BCP 2.0. It will be pretty nice with some cool new features. I really want to expand into something that is more than just a forum. At that point I'm going to pursue some advertising revenue. I don't really want to get into premium services and members' areas and all that. I like contributing to the flying community this way.

What wrong with the T-shirts???

I think I can speak for a lot of people in saying that I appreciate all the hard hours it must take to keep this site up and running. Thanks for the hard work.

Re: Your costs, Zane?

It is embarrasing to ask Zane if he is making lots of money from this forum. Do you think he would be flying a crummy 170 instead of a manly 185 if he had a decent income? Ability does not factor in to this equation.

As far as the whining about old t-shirts and when more are going to be for sale, it would be better to ask when is he going to be GIVING away some of the "plus" size shirts that some members need.

And finally, if he had decent income coming in from this site, he would have to be more forgiving to those that have "hot air" comments. Now if we can just get him on a pair of 210 gs's, he will have arrived.
