180 crash (who's got some parts for Shortfielder?)
Debrief, share, and hopefully learn from the mistakes of others.

You and me both Terry , from what I gather you and I had similar incidents about the same time. Have those trees and light posts removed! It happens so quickly - I find myself playing it back in my head over and over trying to figure out where I went wrong. Live and learn.

Ya me too. Renewing insurance on Monday anybody had or used a carrier named Chartis? Just did a Google search and I see it was AKA AIG.

I must also be great.

Just remember any of us can be humbled. There are those of us who can share the pain because we've been there.

The faster I go , the farther behind I get.
Does it count to be great if you bent stuff up, but it was just me and a parachute and no plane? I had to get my right leg spar replaced

Wow, after looking at these pictures the pain all comes back but at least he walked away. The positive side is that hopefully he can look forward to a new ride in the future and that is an exciting thought.
It does make you appreciate every day you have in the air though.

Insurance is the biggest waste of money in the world.....until you need it. Then it's priceless. I can't afford to insure, but on the other hand I even more so can't afford to self-insure. So I insure.
Sorry to hear about your mishap Gary. Hang in there.

I just got through talking to Del who runs the FBO here at Animas in Durango. He thinks our friend, the mixologist's plane is fixable but would be a project. We wondered who might have parts kicking around their hangar that might be had for a good deal to help get this bird back in the air? Its a 1955 180, I know lots of parts will be compatible even from some 182's.
I'm throwing this out without his permission so keep that in mind, I thought it might help to know what resources might be out there.

Careful I got a $3 per minute calling this Canadian number on my phone bill with AT&T. There pricing was quite a bit higher I forget what I was looking for tho.

Perhaps one could find a ragged-out '56 182 in the low 20's and begin the harvest!

Yes, please put out some kind of list. Never know what we may come up with. Have friends who have friends, who have friends..never know what they can come up with. When I wrecked my friend's J3, parts just kind'a came out of the woodwork...I was amazed! Will do what I can to get the mixologist back into the air.

As you have seen with the post of the picture from Barnstormers Gary put the hurt on his pride and joy, Not good. I have surveyed the damage and in my opinion the plane is very rebuildable. Most of the damage is to parts that are unbolt and bolt back on a different part. The firewall and boot cowl are the only parts that have to be drilled and riveted in. So here is the deal we all know Gary and he could sure use a bit of help from his friends. That is to say that we are looking for parts that could be used to return his plane to airworthy statis so if you know of any spares that could be had to make it happen could you let one of us know. One line of thought is to use a 182 to part out all the needed parts and sell off the rest. Have you seen a derelict like that? Or a fuselage with a salvagable boot and firewall. Left wing. Verticle fin and rudder. Elevator, spinner and top cowl. These are the need parts to repair the airframe. Would still need to deal with the engine. The plane is a 56 so it has slant fuel tanks. The long and short is Gary is just a good guy that could use a hand up! Can you help?
Let me know what you might have. Del
