1960 Cessna 182C Taildragger Conversion

Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

Very satisfying. I like the color of the wings.

Those wings look very nice!

Some excellent craftsmanship on display here, too. Very satisfying to see your work!

Ok, I’m hooked. I have never been very interested in these conversions until now. Thanks so much for keeping us posted. I can’t wait to see the final product.

That airplane looks even better on t/w gear than it does as a tricycle!!

Re: 1960 Cessna 182C Taildragger Conversion

This is the first time I've looked at this thread. I'm always amazed at the amount of work that people will go to, to take a perfectly good airplane and modify it into being a different perfectly good airplane. It's no less amazing to me than to see someone get several boxes of pieces and parts and turn them into a perfectly good airplane, a la Whee's project. Clearly not for the faint of heart, nor for the impatient. It bothers me enough when my airplane has to be partially torn apart to fix something that has broken or worn out. I can't imagine taking it to my mechanic and saying, "make it into a tail dragger". He's done that for another customer, and it's a beautiful airplane, but not something I'd want to do. So more power to you, Rich!

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

Forward floor is installed as well as flap handle, trim wheel etc. The alodined forward section of the tunnel that had the carpet installed on it will eventually be painted gray as well.

Here is a view of the step installation as well as a look at the doubler/cover over the old 182 main gear location.

The yellow is now on the ailerons.

The tail feathers and wing tips are red.

The tail is the next phase.

Fantastic paint scheme but I don't think you will be able to sneak up on anything. :D

Exciting day Friday on the Conversion project.
Pulled it out of the jig/holding fixture and put it on gear.
Washed and etched the fuselage.

Wow, amazing work very cool. Various tailwheel conversions have caught my eye over the years however the magnitude and scope of such a project is daunting, you have clearly risen to the task.

Here is the primer. We are using Jet Glo for paint.
