Re: 2015 Update- Average annual hours flown over last 3 year

Started flying 6 years ago, I have been flying an average every year about 220 hrs.
Most off pavement, many for surfing and Mt biking, many just for fun flying to strips I like, many for photo and video shoot.
Married , kids.

The last 2 years many hrs for making this amazing book.

Last 3 years I've averaged a tad over 400 hrs a year. Can't wait to see what I can do next year living in Alaska May thru September. Hopefully equal number of hours fishing and flying. How cool would that be! Married 40 years, kids grown up and gone.

Re: 2015 Update- Average annual hours flown over last 3 year

This shit is depressing. In my Sled (C207) days I consistently ended up right at the 1,400 hour mark for work and 100-200 hours a year in my own flyin' machines. In fact I had to really ration my hours so I didn't time out in November, as December can be a really busy month in the Arctic.

Now, I'm stretching it to say I get 100 hours a year. And I really miss the proficiency and Zen moments that come with hand flying 5+ hours a day, every day of the year.

I hate feeling this rusty and out of touch.

I am truly impressed at the annual flying experience of so many of the folks here. I feel like such a Kiwi.

By that I mean like the flightless bird, not New Zealand's Big Bad BearHawk Boss Mr. Battson.

I have also begun to better appreciate that having a plane close by and not 20-30 miles away can make a BIG difference.

After reading the many posts I am in the "Compare and Despair." mode. :-)

Married, no kids, he's retired, I am still working. Own our own home on an airpark - makes it convenient to go fly at the drop of a hat.

Mike - Around 200 or so hours per year - mostly off pavement
Me - Around 140 hours per year, mostly pavement

Damn. 1400 hours is a shitload of flying in a year.

I've done Close to 1000. 1400 is a different league.

No kidding - I did 1150 one year in my Part 135 Turboprop days. Nothing even close in the last 15 years of jets, I think I hit 850 once a few years back. Wow, 1400... **low whistle** =D>

Re: 2015 Update- Average annual hours flown over last 3 year

Many long years ago, even with it being only part-time, the combination of instructing and SE 135 flying kept my numbers up for awhile. Over the last 10 years, I've averaged 62/year, barely enough to stay semi-competent. And yeah, having to drive about 50 minutes from home to hangar does make a difference.

Over 200 hrs last year, maybe a little less this year because I am now the owner of a Class B motor home.

Re: 2015 Update- Average annual hours flown over last 3 year

150 hours in the airplane over the last three years until this may. Working on 90 since then. Hoping to average ~150 now that my work responsibilities have lessened dramatically. Married with three kids under 10.

Re: 2015 Update- Average annual hours flown over last 3 year

I just filled another page in my logbook yesterday, so this morning I gathered some numbers on the last year while I was doing the "bring forward" math. It'll be interesting to see what it'll look like next year. I've been in non-flying schools since June so that's really put a damper on work flying.

Total flight time: 172.2 hours. Of that time, I've put 55.7 on my plane since I bought it on 29 June and 16.7 hours since I brought it home on 26 Aug. If I keep up this pace in my plane I'll be on track for ~160 hours or so, not counting work flying. We've definitely saved some time/money over taking a car on a couple of trips already. 16 gallons / 2 hours flying vs. ~20 gallons / 5.5 hours driving to see my parents and 1.7 hours flying vs 4.5 hours driving to see Amy's parents helps me justify trips in the plane. Which is great, I'd much prefer to fly than drive!

Like Gump, I flew more than 1200 a year on the pipeline for years. One year on gathering systems I was flying 125 hours a month, so I got more that year. For a couple months flying Cobras into Cambodia I was doing sixteen hours days and flying ten. Now I can't afford to fly unless someone wants to fly with me.

Re: 2015 Update- Average annual hours flown over last 3 year

Roughly 180 per year for the past 3 years. Grateful for all the flying I've gotten to do--it has been my dream since I was a little kid. Would happily do more if I had the time. I finally resorted to editing videos to increase my "fun per gallon" ratio.

Around 110/year. As for kids, my two year olds car seat has fit very nicely in every plane I've put it in. Mom didn't like seeing her 15 day old strapped in the plane too much tho :D
