Re: 4th Idaho trip of the season

Sorry you keep getting grilled about this Moto, despite having displayed an attitude of humility and willingness to make whatever changes necessary to keep the peace.

I feel like you are one of the few people on here actually living the backcountry persona and willingly sharing it with the group and we've all but chased you off with a thread like this. I hope you choose to stick around and keep sharing.

And, I agree, message received. Burry this thread and move on.

IMHO

I disagree - don't bury this thread, others need to see it and read it.

There are probably plenty of places is to do this, but over a major rafting corridor in a wilderness area where airplanes have a fragile exemption isn't one of them. To post proof of this makes any sort of advocacy even harder. I have posted a few videos over the years but tried to make sure they weren't going to put anything in jeopardy, from my certificate to a particular airstrip. And even though I feel most of my videos were in the vein of safety, I still contemplate deleting them.

2 weeks ago I spent a weekend flying in the San Juans with a couple of huge aviation Youtubers. One of them is being violated for not using a checklist in a video that was clearly edited. The exposure is real and weather it is the FAA, BLM, FS, or anyone else for that matter a video is pretty telling for whatever they want to push, edited or not. Reading the letter he received certainly gave me pause.

I am not trying to be the fun police, but we have seen airports close do to people doing stupid stuff. Last year in Colorado we lost the use of a great private airstrip due to silly behavior. It does happen.

^^ This needed to be said and I really appreciate that someone had the cojones to come out and say it. I'm sorry that you, Moto, walked right into the crosshairs on this topic, but this is a bigger issue and *access* to the backcountry is way more important than social media "likes". Unfortunately, basically all of these videos - good behavior or not - are being used against us in the fight for access to these strips (because, if nothing else, it "disturbs the wildlife"). As a native Idahoan, we have seen the slow roll-back of access to public lands across the spectrum, from hunting and fishing areas, to airstrips, to hiking and biking trails, and this is exactly the kind of "evidence" that emerges in city council meetings to justify it.

For all future readers, please consider: do your posts/videos/pictures help or hurt the process to preserve what we have?

@learntolandshort
As for STOL tips , being not original I have had Riding Tips in my website for years for motorcycle riding.

http://www.motoadventuring.com/riding-tips.html

I dont know who you are and why are you asking me to change the name of STOL tips.
I havent copied this tips from anyone, as with riding, this are just tips that work for me for flying into short places.

Please send me a PM first and introduce yourself , then we can talk.[/quote]

My apologies for being rude about it. Yesterday alone I found 2 sites using STOL tips to promote their "brand". I guess I just lumped you into a category of trying to leverage STOL Tips knowingly and I apologize. Thank you for your willingness to change the name. I do think it is confusing for folks. I do sincerely appreciate it.

Yesterday I took 2 phone calls asking for the agenda of one of my seminars coming up. Only I don't have any scheduled through this year, sure enough I found a word for word copy of my seminar's name being promoted with a guy that isn't even a CFI. I feel like that dilutes the credibility of my seminars when there is that kind of confusion. Perhaps that's on me for choosing a generic name, but I did a lot of searching before I named my series that and never stumbled upon it before I named it STOL Tips.
