A Rare Bird In These Here Parts

So, there is currently some seismic surveying going on for the oil and gas business in Southeastern Ohio. They are actually probing the fields around my house as well. I had heard that they were using a turbine DC-3 for part of the survey. I didn't believe that's what they were using until I saw it with my own eyes about two weeks ago. I was out on a pipeline right of way and I heard the turbines coming in the distance and at fairly low altitude. I saw the paint scheme and I thought, "That looks like a Ken Borek bird."

Well Friday night I flew over to KPKB (Parkersburg,WV) for a stop and go and was in the pattern and saw it parked on the ramp. I didn't have time to stop and take some pictures so I vowed to come back and get some. I made it over to the airport tonight and snapped a few. I'm not sure why, but I have always loved the DC-3\C-47. Maybe because its just a bad ass taildragger. I want to fly one so bad!

Great to see this Canadian visiting the area.

I'm the same, Evan - I've always loved the Gooney Bird. That's one type rating I'm going to add in the next few years!

There were a couple. Neither was this one.

ALCI is hard on their Gooney Birds. Ken Borek always seems to come to their rescue.

I've a picture of me sticking my head out of the pilot seat window of one when it was parked by the smoke jumper base at McCall Id. I'll have to see if I can find it.
