alcohol free gas finally

I spoke with Ken poole owner of poole oil here in ontario or. and he said he will now be able to provide alcohol free gas in the supreme grade only. I guess there was a law change? anyway i would assume other suppliers in state will be doing same? i understood it that the station owner/bulk tank owner had to request alc free to get it delivered that way

Re: alcohol free gas finally

I have been burning Chevron supreme for the last few years and check it every time with no trace of ethanol. The regular always has ethanol.
Still a lot cheaper than 100LL and the sparkplugs & cylinders stay much cleaner without the lead.

Union 76 premium in Ellensburg was still moonshine free last time I tested. That was around the end of last Nov. The tanker driver at the station told me Conoco here is too.

My opinion....even though it isn't worth shit.....ALL states should NOT have ethenaol in their premium fuel. Let the people decide if they want to use ethanol free fuel.

WW I agree with you about premium gas, aside from the airplane I've got a classic car that I'm afraid to refuel. It will not like alcohol.

Shawn
Just a jar with a line drawn somewhere around the middle will work. Just fill the jar with water to the line then top off with fuel, shake a little
and let it settle, within a few seconds if you see the water amount increase it has alcohol in the fuel (water and alcohol combine quickly)

Re: alcohol free gas finally

If you buy the autofuel STC from EAA, they will give you the alcohol test kit free.

Here in South Texas, we still have ethanol-free gas in regular unleaded gasoline at some of the gas stations like CITGO, etc. I save almost 50% each time I fill up! Makes flying much more enjoyable....

On a side note, some of the gas from other stations do not contain ethanol, however, there seems to be a green colored additive added. Anyone know what that could be and if it's safe to burn in the airplane? If anyone has heard of Valero, that's the gas station that does that. CITGO's ethanol-free gas is clear.

Re: alcohol free gas finally

Tcraft,
So, you think it may be available at the first gas station on the left as you leave the Ontario airport heading towards town? In other words the closet gas station to the airport...

I don't know if you have them over on the dry side of the mountains, but here in western WA at least some of the Cenex farm stores sell ethanol-free gas. The one in my area only has regular grade gas, I believe they also have premium at some of the others. It's real handy to the airport so I buy most all my fuel there, both for the airplane & my cars.

That's interesting that they're not trying to support the farm economy. All the Cenex stations around here sell both E0 and E10.

There is a new law. The old law, SB-1079, allowed a retailer to sell E0 gasoline, either regular, mid-grade or premium, only to an exempt group of users: boaters, aircraft, antique but not classic cars, certain ATVs, and small engines. There had to be a label on the pump to that effect. (Most people ignored the label, especially classic car owners, and there never was an ORS to charge you with, so a Sheriff could never have arrested you if you pumped the gasoline into your old VW or whatever.) On January 1, 2010 a new law, HB-3497, went into affect that removed the exemptions for E0 premium unleaded gasoline only. A retailer can sell to all comers. The exemptions are still in effect for regular, you cannot put regular or mid-grade E0 in just any car on the road. (Oregon is the only mandatory E10 state that ever passed exemptions for regular.)

N1593Y, A few months ago you were saying that sub-octane gasoline is all that would be refined pretty soon. What's the story on that now?

I do not think Dean checks this site very much. Not to sure how much of a backcountry pilot he is but he was very instrumental in getting Mogas in Lebanon OR. He is a main wheel in this site http://www.e0pc.com/index.php

I am not pushing this site and hate a break a rule, but this site is on the front line of the 0E issue.

I didn't know Cenex was (apparently) nation-wide. Glad to hear that they're making E0 so widely available. The Cenex where I do busines has only a couple gas pumps, maybe at the bigger ones around here they do offer both E0 & E10. They do have a pump with off-highway diesel- illegal to use in highway vehicles & dyed for easy identification.
Not too many farmers around here raising corn for ethanol, it's mainly for food and silage- so I guess Cenex is trying to support them by giving them the most gasoline bang for the buck. I wish you'd quit waving the "anti-farmer" flag just because people don't wanna have E10 (or higher) rammed down their throat. I'm not against farm subsidies -- just against the unavailability of clear gas and mandatory E-gas.

Here's their website. They do market a lot of ethanol--at least some places.
