Anyone here need hours? Flying DC to Denver.

I'm flying 182 from Washington dc to denver, co on the weekend after thanksgiving. If anyone on here wants the dual hours, let me know. If you pay for gas then I will pay for the plane. It is normally 12 to 16 hours with normal winds. I'm fine tuning it down and saving gas too. Get in touch with me if anyone is interested.

Sorry guys, one way trip. You will have to get a flight back to DC or wherever you live. 15 hours in 182 would normally cost about $2800. Pay for gas and a one way flight home is going to be a 60% savings on those hours. If anyone is working on an instrument rating, we could easily knock out a huge portion of the hood flying, plus both ifr dual cross countries, maybe even some actual instrument flying if it is warm enough.

Re: Anyone here need hours? Flying DC to Denver.

I just ran some numbers and came up with 1300 miles from KDCA-KDEN. Now I'm guessing you're not flying out of Dulles or Regan or landing at KDEN so just the math says it's about 10 hours and you should burn about 12 gph times lets say $5.50 per gallon is only $660 in fuel how do you get $2800 operating cost out of that flight? Even if you divide $2800 by 15 hrs is $186 per hour :?: That's some expensive flying you're doing

I think he meant it would be 2800.00 to rent a 182 for that many hours.

Ok, guess that leaves me out - I'll fly the airlines when the TSA is disbanded and the airline companies themselves start treating passengers like valued customers instead of prison inmates. In other words, probably not again in this lifetime!

Yeah it is into the wind almost every time unless we catch the north side of a low. So usually 15 hours. I was saying a 182 to rent plus instructor time would be about 190 an hour.

I must be doing the numbers wrong :?: I'm plotting on AOPA flight planner and they're showing 1281 nm and I'm using 135kts and it's plotting a 10-15 kt headwind across the east and 20-25kts across the midwest and a 30kt 1/4ing headwind close to KDEN and it's calculating 9:55 where are you getting the extra 5 hours :?:

And are you looking for somebody to ride along and help pay for fuel and their own airfare back to DC and you'll log them as dual VFR or IFR training :?: Not condemning this just trying to get a translation. If you're going IFR it probably could stretch it out to 15hrs.

Re: Anyone here need hours? Flying DC to Denver.

It always takes a lot longer then flight planned. First off, my 182 does not do 135 knots. No pants, big tires, and I fly it nice and slow to save gas. Secondly, what altitude did you file? Yesterday I landed in Colorado from Boston in a 172 and it took 25 hours. We had to go south to stay out of ice if we hit some imc. That is just one example of something that could cause more hours. Deviating around a thunderstorm.. Ect. As you pilots know, there is always something to slow you up. We had a 55knot ground speed at one point in the 172 at 4500 ft. 2400 rpm.

I have gotten a lot of emails so I am sad to say that any spot is already taken. If I do more of these I will post them so some pp can get some good cheap hours.

Re: Anyone here need hours? Flying DC to Denver.

No "2+2=5". Big horn, if you think you can go to fltplan and plug in dca then plug in kden and that will give you an accurate estimate of your time going across the country in a 4 place airplane, then you need to get some experience before posting such responses. I have done this trip 7 times this year.

KGAI to KBDU going the southern route (to avoid being held down for days because of some ifr and he icing that goes along with it during this time of year) through west virginia, Kentucky, Missouri, Kansas,.. You have a total of 1352nm. With a 32 knot head wind ( it was 50 knots at 4500 when I did this trip last Monday), you get a time of 15h 22m with airspeed of 120 knots. And this is not accounting for any deviations in flight. I.e maybe have to get vectored around bravo somewhere... squall line thunder storm we might have to go around. There is always always some weather to deal with during this trip. Almost impossible to do it without dodging something.

Get it bighorn?

Re: Anyone here need hours? Flying DC to Denver.

The aeronautical realities are valid....

.... however may I suggest that any modest resentment detected may arise from the sense that someone is trying to make/save a few extra bucks in the process of normal enterprise. Kinda like the part 135/141 operators who offer great aviation experience to novice pilots who are willing to pay for the priviledge of flying copilot. [-X

Round here....most folks are into giving it away. =D>

Re: Anyone here need hours? Flying DC to Denver.

As far as I am concerned, I am splitting the costs of the plane because I am paying engine depreciation, maintenance, ect. I know I wish I could give free rides to everyone but I just don't have enough money to fly people all over the USA and while instructing them. Soo.. I'm done with this thread. Sorry if people have a problem with me.

Oh and I won't be flying the airplane to Colorado unless I have someone to fly with me for hours. So it is not normal enterprise..

Since instruction is being included, I think it it a great deal/offer. The fly in the ointment is the transportation/ flight to get back to DC (or visa versa).
Yes, we all would like 'sugar daddys' to cover our wants/needs-but usually that involves meeting some 'expectation'.....
Well, except the welfare system, and they receive your dignity in the exchange. Well, I guess it isn't that much different after all!
