Okay, I finally rejoined AOPA after 15 years, and was looking at their (our?) flightplanning software, FlyQ.

1. Does anyone use it? or is there better stuff out there?
2. Can you only plan from one airport to another? That would make it not very useful for me.

I will say that when I was filling in my personal info for the AOPA website it rejected PAHO, insisting that my home airport is called HOM. You would think that AOPA could get that right at lease.

If you are on IOS Foreflight is the leader for good reason. Others are making steady progress on catching up though.

If you are on Android there are many comparable things to choose from. FlyQ Pocket is available, but not FlyQ EFB.

As a long term member of AOPA and COPA, (both worthwhile organization doing a lot for the freedom of aviation in the US and Canada) I subscribed to FlyQ. I then subscribed to Jeppesen (JeppFD), ForeFlight and AvCharts.
The only one I will be renewing is ForeFlight, more of a personal choice and ease of use.
My 2cents

I use Fly Q to check wx and services. It is the easiest way I have found to file IFR. I run flightprep on my tablet in flight for all the moving charts and xm wx overlay.

I too use FlyQ on my phone (free version) for quick weather checks, etc.

I subscribe to Foreflight on the IPad, and it's hard to beat.

As to the airport identifier thing, I'd give them a call and let them know, and at the same time ask them about non airport waypoints.

While you're at it, give Tom George a call in Fairbanks....he's your AOPA Regional Rep, and he WILL get on their case on this kind of stuff. He's a good resource.

Store your N number in fly Q. When you do a quick WX check with the phone app, you are on record as receiving a complete weather report for each airport you checked. The FAA loves that if an issue arises. All on DUATS. And of course they get paid each time and love it too..

1: yes and yes. Foreflight for one.
2: No. You can add waypoints and plan to them.

Not the greatest planner but it works. I store a bunch of local flights and reload them to check the weather and for TFRs.
I mostly just use it to plan fuel stops and check the weather.

I tested Foreflight, FlyQ, Pilot, and whatever that one is that Bendix King put out. Foreflight won out and I really like it. It helped I got a discount on it via work too. The only thing I wish it had was the split screen like some of the others have. But they are always adding more features.
