Barnstormers

I just got this to come up:
The Barnstormers web site is suffering a malicious cyber attack by a person or persons unknown. The perpetrators intentions are to depriving the aviation community one of its valuable assets. You may be assured that every effort is being made to track down and prosecute the offenders and that the site will return the moment we have blocked the attack. Your loyalty is Barnstormers greatest asset; we now ask for your patience and continued confidence. Barnstormers Inc.

Who'd a thunk?

Re: Barnstormers

I sure wish we could get a handle on this cyber crime. It sure does seem to be more commonplace than ever and no one seems to be prosecuted for it.
And I'm actively looking for a new plane. Now my favorite shopping channel is down. Guess I have to do that honey-do list.

Part of the challenge of prosecution is the baddies are usually located overseas. When I worked as a sysadmin in a datacenter, it seemed like most of our denial of service attacks came from South America and hacking attempts from Russia. Pretty much impossible to punish them - just had to work like crazy to block them until they gave up.

Just a far distant second IMO. Trade-a plane is great if I wanted to buy a jet or a King-air. But for affordable singles and experimentals, Barnstormers is the hands down winner. =D>

Have you checked http://www.globalplanesearch.com/ ?

It's good for searching all the smaller sites.

Re: Barnstormers

Wow, bummer. This needs to be dealt with, Barnstormers has genuinely emerged as the most useful and cleanest and most user-friendly website in aviation. They caught Trade-a-Plane with their pants down in Tennessee, and to some extent obsoleted TAP almost immediately. Lorraine Kivi ("The Baroness") built an incredibly great resource. The aviation community cannot afford to lose it.

Here's my idea for a reality TV show.... they send out a team of computer experts to find the punk-ass POS nerd-criminals who send out the viruses, and do the "phishing" scams, and who send you a notice they you won the lottery in Nigeria. They get actual proof and have it verified, so they don't arrest the wrong punk-ass bitch. Then the whole world (including the other cyber-criminals) gets to watch the person be tortured to death, or thrown into a pool of Piranha fish, or have holes drilled in their kneecaps, or raped to death in jail.

Re: Barnstormers

Would be good practice for Spec-ops teams. Send them in to take out the cyber terrorist. But this time show the pics. Might make some of them think twice. Instead of wasting millions of taxpayer dollars on useless programs like the National endowment for the arts, we could put a huge bounty on their heads.

Re: Barnstormers

Still down. Barnstormers is a great read when you're stuck in a hotel room for days on end. I may have to put on some pants and check out the pool if they don't get back online pretty soon.

Re: Barnstormers

I was wondering what happened. It is a great site and best place to sell buy and sell planes or parts. Your right these SOB's need to be taken out and shot. I don't understand why people work so hard to just screw everything up. I got a computer virus a month or so ago and it took 5 hrs of talking to half the population of India to get me back online. I wasn't a happy camper.

Re: Barnstormers

Its back. Sort of. The basic format is there but I can't get any ads to show and it's really slow. They must be in the process of restoring everything. I hope.

Re: Barnstormers

The size and complexity of Barnstormers is truly impressive when you consider that Lorraine started out working on it from the corner of a dusty hangar at El Cajon Field in the mid 90s.

I used to apprentice for her husband (partner/) Bob Von Willer in his Exotic Aircraft restoration shop. I had no idea it would ever get this big. Bob was a shammer and a thief, but good on Lorraine.

It's back. I am still in the hotel, with pants on, enjoying catching up on planes I will never be able to afford.
