BCP Site Performance

Hey Zane,

Yesterday I ran into a problem with loading the web site. It seemed to freeze up on me. If I waited a couple of minutes it would give me one of those "program not responding messages". That type of message would normally lead me to believe it is my computer.

However, this has happened a couple of times before over the last several months but I have never had it happen on another site. I can exit and immediately go elsewhere but each time I came back to the BCP site it did the same thing.

Seems to work fine today. Did you or anyone else notice any issues yesterday? Maybe my computer is having new year's jitters? The alcohol is supposed to go in the slot where the cup holder is, isn't it?

hey Skystrider, that same thing has been happening to me for about 2-3 months. almost Every other time i try to get on to the site the home page comes up but will be frozen for up to 3 minutes or so. I can go anywhere else and bammo it loads instantly. For 1/2 a month or so the only way i could get on was through the links or the forum section and it still would not let me load the home page. this morning same thing

Ditto here.

For about the last two months, always on my work computer, never on the home PC.

Happens to me as well. In the status bar in the lower left of IE it shows it is waiting on a url to load that contains googelsyndication.com in it, seems go be an advertising issue.

I can kill the browser and go right back in and it loads fine, the most annoying part is, the system thinks you just visited so when you try to look at posts since last visit the list is blank.

Computers suck, but they keep me employed for now. See what happens when I finally snap and smash it to pieces

I experienced the same delays, but figured it was an algorithm intended to make me slow down, take a deep breath and look out the window--a virtual small town slow down. I tried using Firefox for a while figuring that maybe that would make the difference, but I couldn't get to other web sites I need w/o using IE. Chalk up another for the Evil Empire.

That's cause all you lazy SOB's are looking at it on the clock! Thinking about fly'in and adventure and who knows what else! If I could do a search on your history, I'll bet there's little work being done huh? Just 'cause it's January and your sick of this wet (or white) stuff, you all let your mind wander. I see how it is, whiney bastards........

Thanks for letting me rant, I thought I was the only one.

For what it's worth my BCP link doesn't go to the home page, but to the forum page, and I've never had any sort of problem.

It's all the spyware and browser malware you guys have taken on from surfing p0rn with IE.

I have no problems with loading the homepage, and I use several different internet connections a week. I also use Firefox exclusively, IE is huge pile of junk and I stopped using it years ago.

Occasionally there will be network slowdowns, but they are few and far between. BCP has had fairly uninterrupted hosting performance for quite a while now.

I'd be interested to find out what ISP's, broadband type connections, browser, and hardware you're using. If you have an older machine, some of the javascript on the home page that loads the Google ads and the recent topics can run slower. I know occasionally I will experience a general slowdown or even outtage from my home Comcast cable internet service.

Occasionally the server does start slugging though, and I need to get on the hosting support guys about it. I'll just show them this thread.

As Ravi/Hammer suggested, just bookmark the Recent Topics page, since that's what you're here for anyway. :)

I guess I'm not the only one. I have three computers at work, only one seems to have the problem and it's only when it tries to load the home page. Unfortunately it's the machine I use most often. Running XP and whatever the latest service pack is. Registry has been hacked many times so I just figured I'd corrupted something. Possibly it's network slowdown. I'll try more tests. And yes, all machines are running IE. I run firefox at home.

I'll bet it's the company spyware. They don't allow us to browse for that stuff, not even on our lunchbreak!!!! :x. So I spend my time at the next best site: BCP. :P hmmm. come to think of it, it may have all started when I did a search for here for Lilly Allen and sheep. I'll bet that set off some red flags at HQ.

BCP Poser.
Life is good. Life is better with wings.

Zane- I use Safari. The funny thing I've noticed is the little icon in the URL window at the top of the page. Some days it's the BCP logo, other days it's the generic Safari earth logo. :-k

Zane, seems to me it would be a virtual community service to add some p0rn0 to BCP. Maybe the link could be called "Fat Man and Throbbin".

I also only use firefox and have had no problems. If there is any slow down it is only seconds at a time.

I thought it was all you guys reading and posting all the time.

I have not had any problems in the last year or so and I'm sad to say I have not been able to wean myself from IE. I do however keep my machines pretty well optimized and spyware free. I also keep my applications, that load at startup and run in the background, to a minimum. I also have added a dns of 4.2.2.1 to my router that seems to root out those poorly propogated sites (not that bcp is one). I can't imagine having to wait for BCP. That would be hell ! ;-)

You guys are missin the whole problem... It's them Guvmint guys monitoring and screwin up our little on line git togethers. They think we're a subversive group what with all the aircraft we have and guns and such. Wait till Hilley gets in the big house, then you'll see.

Site seemed slow to respond the last 24 hrs, so I looked into it. Seems that the host had some hardware problems with their network and did some upgrading to fix it. It does seem a little better now.

Sir Edmund? I agree, after all he did pass on a few days ago. There was a cosmic disturbance that slowed the entire internet.
