That really sucks. Guess I should have gone up there last weekend like I wanted to...now I'll never get to experience Big Creek like everyone talks about

That's really sad to hear. Big Creek Lodge was such a cool old place.

I was told that Brook and Dan lost everything including money they had saved this summer. Have any of you been in contact with them?

Tough to see old buildings with such history destroyed like that. Even if they rebuild, it's tough to feel the history from modern construction.

Really hate to see this happen! Very much enjoyed our visit and breakfast in the dining room with friends. Glad to hear no one was injured.
I know it is a little soon...is there something we could do to help? Since it was leased property would the Forest Service let it be rebuilt?
This is a real cool place..I would really hate to see it go away.

What a shame. I have been going there for years and I remember when they first got electricity! I hope it will be rebuilt.

That is so sad. I think we all had great memories there. We were bopping all over Idaho a few years back and dropped in there to spend the night. It was one of my sons ninth birthday. They threw him an impromptu surprise party...homemade cake...lots of singing and laughing. It was a blast. He still talks about it. I think I'll keep the bad news to myself.

I just read this thread and am sitting here in shock. I am SO sad to hear about this. For me, Big Creek was the breakfast stop before a day of fun backcountry flying. Their price couldn't be beat, unlike the over the top price Sulpher Creek is now charging. But that is nothing compared to the history of that building and the articles lost that were on display.

Man, this sucks. I hope they rebuild, but it will never be the same. I'm glad that Dan and Brooke are alright, but sad to hear that they lost so much. I am so glad I was able to get up there 4 times this summer. So many good times had in that lodge. So sad.

Here's a link to another story about the fire.

http://www.ktvb.com/news/localnews/stories/ktvbn-oct2308-big_creek_lodge.13eef92e2.html

It's a shame that it was a chimney fire, because with proper maintenance, that's completely preventable.

I first went to Big Creek as a little kid in the sixties and last flew in there this summer. My dad actually lived there for a couple of summers when he was a kid around 1940. I am angry and saddened by this loss, but thankful that no one was hurt.

Anybody ever partake in an old fashioned barn raising? I think all us backcountry guys should show up with our toolbelts and help rebuild.
I only made it to Big Creek once on the first weekend with my new 170B. I loved the place.
