I was wondering when they opened up, being that they are so much lower. Man, I had better get to Southern UT in the next few weeks or it isn't going to happen this year 'cause the planes nose will want to point north as soon as strips start opening up there.

What a pretty day to be flying. Too bad the plane I was supposed to be flying today is down for a brake problem. :(

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

The Diamond D Ranch just south of Upper Loon Creek (U72) offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner as well. The ranch is about 4 miles from the strip, but if you send an e-mail to let 'em know you're coming, and fly over on the way in, they'll pick you up and give you a ride. Its not on their website, but breakfast is $15 and they're open from June - Nov. There's a ton of forest service campsites up there that are pretty good too. Their website is www.diamonddranch-idaho.com. Have a good one!

Re: Big Creek Replacement

Mackay Bar has done away with the $25. landing fee, but they do require you to email them 24 hours before you arrive for breakfast.( [email protected]) If you have never been into this location I have a video of a landing down stream at Mackay Bar. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8EPJkvyIt_E It might help you as the strip is not visible until you are on short final. There is a sharp bend in the River at each end of the landing strip. It is a nice place, they treat you good and it beautiful there.... Bob

Been to all of the above this summer and the best backcountry breakfast, by far, is Mackay Bar. Be sure and call ahead for reservations.
