Now I use well broke in Hi-Tec hiking boots.
Another thing I did which helped a bunch, is I made a heel skid plate out of thin Stainless Steel and mounted it to my rubber floor matt.
It keeps your heels from digging into the rubber matt/carpet. Especially helpful during takeoff too!

What works best for me is to keep my heels on the floor and use the bass of my feet. To apply brakes I just tool the balls of my feet to my toes. This method works because I am always in contact with the pedals. It is more of a "finesse" movement without stabbing the pedals which is overkill. My .02 cents

I snapped a picture of my size 11 feet this morning. I love these shoes that are probably 25 years old. It wasn't me that wore the paint off the top of the pedals.

Agree with GBFlyer and Gump. On T/O and landing, I have heels dragging on floor with toes on the bottom, outer edge of the pedal. No inadvertent braking. This works with Bunny boots, and everything else I have used. When the tailwheel on nosewheel comes down after landing, feet re-index and shift upward on pedal so brakes can be activated. I use same technique on 180, 206, Navajo, Twin Bonanza, Conquest, King air, etc Selkirk interior will need a little trimming of pedestal plastic to prevent right toe from getting jammed up on 206.
