big fork on 182

Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

big fork on 182

FYI, the Landes STC allows you to run any tire from a 6.00 to an 8.50 provided you run the same size all around. Contrary to popular belief, there is no requirement that you run 8.50's.

206 fork on 182

I'm attaching a photo of the fork on my 182. I believe it is from a 206. The tire on it is a 6.00x 6.
There is a little bit of room in there, but I'm pretty sure a 7.00x 6 wouldn't fit.
Is the 310 fork different?

I think that is from a 310. 310's have that little tab just aft of the axle that the fender was attached to. When I installed mine we shaved that off.

I installed a Landis nose fork on my 182 and mounted a 8.50x6 nose wheel and 8.50x10 Gar Aero's on the mains. I really liked this setup and highly recommend it. I have since sold the 182 and bought a Husky, but liked the back country capability of this 182 setup.

Drag Queen

Boy that is a lot of rubber on a 182 strait tail. A plane that is never off the ground is known as a Hanger Queen. A 182's middle name is drag and with all that rubber, that 182 would be a Drag Queen.

Airplanes are a study in compromise and a function of what you plan to use them for. In addition to the big tires, I also installed a Bush STOL kit, removed the back seats, and extended the baggage area into the next bulkhead. I hauled big loads with that airplane and took it into some very rough strips that you wouldn't want to fly into with "wheel panties." If I was all that concerned about speed, I would have bought an SR-22. I was fond of that 182.

I think it looks cool with big rubber. It appears to rest fairly level too.

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”

Ah, but not as beautiful as that classy 170B. My 170 was a 1953 as well.

Just ribbing you. I have 182B that will be getting the 310 fork and 700's on the mains pretty soon. Extended bagage is also on the list. Makes for a pretty good all arround plane.

The 182 is a great airplane. You will really like the extended baggage.

Looks like a Landis in thatr last pic.

Started looking for parts when I started this thread about 3 1/2 months ago. Got that acomplished in about 4 weeks. Then colected a bunch of copies of field approvals of existing conversions. That took a lot longer than I thought it would have taken. Next was to get the local feds to approve the whole thing and that took about a month. Just got the word that my intalation is good to go.

We will be doing the work the last of this month. It is obvious that if you are in a hurry and you live south of Alaska, better to go with the Landis.

Not interested in going that big. For my purpose, a 600 on the front is just right. I have been told that you can go up to a 700 on the front but I think that is a bit tight.

If I was interested in gravel bars I would have gotten a Maule.

At last

Well we finished the annual the first of the week and part of it was the removal of the wheel pants and intallation of the 310 fork with 600x6. The main pants were 6 pounds each and the nose pant was 4 pounds. The 310 fork with tire were an increase of 6 pounds.

That is net decrease in weight of 10 pounds which Means that I can carry 10 more pounds of hot links for Bruce.

I am planning on being at Austin for the fly-in in two weeks and will take a photo then and post it.

Altitude is Time…. Airspeed is Life!

My bird is a 1966 182J. Has the 206 nose fork with a 7.00x6 on the nose and 8.00's on the mains....no problems at all.
