Re: Building a runway!

Well, the last five US presidents have airports named after them (at least. I stopped looking after Carter). I think it would be funny as hell if you were to get the jump on that and name yours Barack Obama International.

Oh, I know where you live. That's part of what I found funny about it. Just think how certain cable channels would get their panties in a bunch when they find out about it.

Re: Building a runway!

Haha! Good one rw2. I just don't think I could bring myself to do it. Although if I could spend the same kinda money he does because of the name, damn I'd have a nice airport.

Well, the white stuff is here, but its warm so I took advantage and spread some fertilizer.

Also decided I would try out some solar lights from brightportal. They llok great. I mounted them on posts so they are 3' off the ground. Should be enough that they won't get covered with snow.

Next spring I'll put some pylons up and do a bit of spraying, and she should look good!

Re: Building a runway!

Having once mowed through a taxi light with a Taylorcraft, #-o I personally would look for something a little softer and more sacrificial than rebar. Otherwise, looks like a really nice runway light. Let us know how they do.

Thanks for the advice DP. I will try to think up a way using pvc pipe. I'd keep them lower, but with the amount of snow we get, and as tall as the crops get in the summer, I thought it would be nice to try to keep them up and visible. But I can definitely see the pvc being easier on tue plane then pvc pipe would be in case of a botched landing.
Thanks again.

Re: Building a runway!

Look around for names of creeks, rivers, is there an old duffer around there that is a local character, who taught you to fly, who inspired you to fly, wifes name!! Name of the farm or ranch you own??
Have fun with it!!
I can't remember what all you grow there but you might think about something along that line?

If you have some old disc harrow blades, place one around the base of each light. Safe to drive over and will control the crops/ weeds around the lights.

Looking really nice, BTW

Re: Building a runway!

Here's a landing at my strip in the early summer. No grass growing on it yet at the time of the video.
