Chet you really did well. Heck of a performance.

Rudi was really smooth & knew his numbers. I have nearly 4000 hrs in 185s, and both he and Paul really understand the 185 imho.

I have a few clips on my Facebook page. I came down with phenomia Monday, so have not been up to compiling, editing & posting to Vimeo but I will. I am trying to get healthy as I go to Baja flyfishing next week.

Yes, any day you beat Claus is a good day!

Also noted that he did not fly a cub this year?

Whats up with the lack of interest in the STOL comp this year? This thread has the most action of any on the net, and it's mostly filled with confusion of what 100ft actually measures....... :D

The results got posted over on cub.org and not one comment, no video, no discussion? I couldn't take it any longer yesterday and texted Bob Breeden and he told me Bobby had won. Anyway, I hope we see some more discussion on what went on and what worked and didn't.

Lots of Cordova entries this year. This was the first time for Brad Sjostead in the red and white 185. Anyone notice Paul changed up his tires this year? Looks like he is running the 850's. How about the bird dog and the 50 degree flaps? With the great weather I'm surprised there is not more as well. Thanks for posting the video.

Noticed the tires.......thinking Paul just pulled the skis off to come do the comp, and didn't have a chance to put the BW on. Just speculation on my part, but they are having a late winter and maybe he was still on skis for his spring skiing clients? I'm sure the reduced angle of attack played with him some.

I see a 170B won the light touring class with a total score of 337! Now all I need is a IO-360 and I'm heading to Valdez next year :D

Re: C185 w MT Prop wins Valdez Heavy Touring Class STOL

Paul showed up with the skis as he still has plenty of snow on his home strip. Took the skis off the morning before the comp and then put the skis back on to go home. I really like the cam set up he used to do the change out on the ramp. The Alpha cub was getting a recover job that didn't get completed before the show. I don't know if Paul runs any retractable skis on his cubs. Might have been a reason he didn't bring one of the other planes, but didn't ask. I didn't notice if Valdez left a ski strip, but assumed it was destroyed when they plowed the ramp?
Steve Burak brought his Beaver and took off in 235 ft! in the heavy touring class. He was landing in just over 300, but they don't usually measure past 300, so I don't know if he got an actual measurment?
Was standing next to Bob as Bobby was doing his landings. Just as much fun to watch Bob, and his excitement was truly contagious.

robw56, you'll need a 470 Conti to match the blue 170B contender. I believe that's what he has.

Shawn Holly from Soldotna won the light touring division for the third straight year in a IO-360 powered 170B. Congrats (again)!

I think Shawn has a 180hp. I know that Larry L who came in 3rd in the same class in his C170B has one as well.

(I shot these last year, but)

Here is Shawns bird-

According to the results posted at supercub.org he has an IO-360 Contenental 210hp engine. I would post the PDF here but not sure how. You can get to it through this link though: http://www.supercub.org/forum/showthrea ... on-Results

Re: C185 w MT Prop wins Valdez Heavy Touring Class STOL

Thanks, Greg.

Yeah my 170B does have a IO-360 Continental in it. The purple 170B from Cordova has the same engine as well. It was dead wind this year so all the numbers from each category are not as impressive as they usually are. Two years ago with a light breeze my take off number was about half of this year.
Chet did an amazing job with his Maule, gave me a tough run for it. He also is running the IO-360. It was a fun weekend. I'm already looking forward to next year.
