C205...What am I???

So for those of you out there that have flown a 205, or know someone that does, I have a question: what did you call yourself? I know the 205 has had several names: Super Skylane, Super Skywagon, Stationair, and Skywagon. But what have you used to identify yourself?

I've gotten in the habit of using the specific name so that ATC knows roughly the performance capabilities of the plane they are handling. But now, I'm not sure what to call myself.

Let's hear your opinions!

Thanks,
GSP

My 1964 206 is a "Skywagon" but every once in a while I take a bit of baloney about it but I just smile and let it go.......

Re: C205...What am I???

It might be worth checking with the FAA to see what they use as their "official" identifier for the C-205. The reason I bring this up, is when obtaining flight following, or entering class C or B airspace, and tell them I'm an Experimental, they then ask me for the aircraft identifier which is "BEAR" for the Bearhawk. So, I'm assuming they have some sort of database. Although I don't know the purpose of it, at least it is consistent across the country.

Re: C205...What am I???

I thought about asking ATC. That's a good thought about what might be in their database of what they use.

The FAA's official designation is either a C210-5 or a C205...depending what document you are looking at. Obviously calling it a Centurion doesn't feel right! Initially I've been calling myself a Stationair as it seems to be the closest fit.

I would go with stationair.I know the 207 is a skywagon but never heard that for the 206.?Isn't the 205 just a P-206?

No, the other way around. The 210 begat the 205 (C210-5), which begat the 206, which begat the 207.

After the success of the 205, they put a bigger engine on it, lengthened the elevator, stretched the fuselage (along with some other changes) and created the P/U variants of the 206.

Problem with that is there is a big enough difference between a 150 thru a 207, for example.

Re: C205...What am I???

I would also have said Stationair, as an uneducated passer-by.
Just log into Wikipedia, delete the names you don't want from the 4 in the C205 article, and everyone else will start to give you the same answer...

I think that will be obvious once the entire family spills out of the machine. ;)

x3 on Stationair. Whether it's technically accurate or not based on the lineage, I think it best represents the aircraft's appearance and capabilities for anyone trying to spot you or sequence you.

Re: C205...What am I???

I've always wondered what to call the 170.... If a 180 is a Skywagon then I figure I'm at least a Skybucket???

Re: C205...What am I???

Another vote for just plain old "Cessna". I always used that for everything from 150 to 206, and never a complaint from ATC. There ain't THAT much difference, folks....From ATC's perspective, I doubt they give a rip.....they're all slow, the planes, that is.

If it has two motors its "Twin Cessna", if it has a turbine, "Caravan".

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

Re: C205...What am I???

Cessna 205's were only made 2 years 1963 and 1964. Called a "Super Skylane" until the end of production (a little less than 500 units) all delivered from factory were IO-470-S engines .All the IO-520's make it into a
P206 . In 1964 the Cessna company started delivering P (passenger doors ) and U (large double doors on R/H side ) .1971 was last year for the 206P .All 206's after 71 were "U" models.

X2

ATC doesn't care, and in all reality the speeds in the pattern are pretty close for all piston single engine Cessnas.

Cessna, Twin Cessna, Caravan, Twin Caravan (for the F406), and Slow-tation for the Citations.
