To figure out best glide you need to plot rate-of-descent vs. airspeed and run the tangent from 0 mph. Or, run a spreadsheet with airspeed in ft per min vs descent rate to calculate glide ratio, and choose the speed with the best ratio. There’s corrections for gross weight, as well. Min descent speed will keep you in the air longer, but you will have nowhere near enough energy to flare. Try the transition from min descent speed to flare at altitude and maintain altitude for say 5-10 seconds (you’re going to have to pitch down to get there), and see how much altitude you need to accomplish same.

jrc-

Absolutely. Well said. And that is exactly what I'm going to have to do when I reevaluate the Skywagon's modified wing for Best Glide and Min Sink.

I am actually suggesting that everyone play around with these numbers to get a better feel for their particular airplane! Don't take my word... of course some training/proficiency may be required;)

Gunny,
I definitely appreciate your work and sharing information. I am certainly learning from your work and really encourage you to keep sharing. I look forward to your video with the C180.
PS where in Texas are you? In Little Rock would love to fly out and meet up some time.

It would be great to meet up! We'll have to plan it. I'm just south of Fort Worth.
