Re: Cessna 205 - A worthy and affordable 6-seater

I've always called the C206 the "Stationair".
Is that something that came along some years later?
Or only applies to specific versions of the 206?

Likewise, I call all 180/185's Skywagons,
although the reality is that the skywagon name was introduced with the 185 in 1961,
and wasn't applied to the 180 until 1969.

Cessna Skywagon -- accept no substitute!

Re: Cessna 205 - A worthy and affordable 6-seater

There are 2 types of nose gear.
Light and Heavy, they bolt through the tunnel and have a drag link going aft

The light is most common. it has an internal centering mechanism.
The heavy has an external mechanism on the scissors and is the same as a 206/207 although there have been many subtle changes depending on year.

182 is different

Keep the Greasy side down!

Re: Cessna 205 - A worthy and affordable 6-seater

Interesting. I thought the nose wheel attaches to the firewall like the 182s...or at least that’s what I was told. I guess thinking about it , it is quite a bit forward of it. I need to go look at the maintenance manual.

Re: Cessna 205 - A worthy and affordable 6-seater

For you 205 owners out there –

Does anyone have the Knots2U (or similar) lower cowl bowl installed on their 205? I spoke with Knots2U and they have a part that will work but say I would need field approval to install it.

The chin bump on the 205 could be seen as “cool,” but so are a few MPH, but maybe not for the price…curious on any feedback if you have this mod.

Re: Cessna 205 - A worthy and affordable 6-seater

The lower cowl is part of the structure, unlike other Cessnas, so to replace it would require quite a bit of work and money. In my opinion, not worth the time down or money spent. Put that money into the tanks. The few knots (if that) that might be gained would take a long time to recover the cost on any type of time savings.

It would be interesting to see any data on what kind of difference it would make. Out of curiosity.

I think hes talking about the chin bump in the center. Same as the early 206s have. We've put the knots2u ones on a couple early 206s and it looks a lot better. Easy install, just remove the old one and match drill the new one.

Cessna 205 - A worthy and affordable 6-seater

Interesting. The curvature begins before the actual split panel (gear doors) and continues farther up, so I figured he was wanting to get rid of it all. Do you have any pics? That would be interesting to see. And it would interesting to hear what they think the difference was.

How much do they want for it?

Good thing A1Skinner knows what I'm talking about because I wasn't entirely sure.

And I'm with Grassstrippilot, just curious what it would look like and any benefits. Probably not for me but you never know without asking!

Thanks, fellas.

Re: Cessna 205 - A worthy and affordable 6-seater

I have a question for you 205 guys though. Does the engine mount on the tunnel like the 206s, or does it have a metal mount off the firewall like the early 210s?

It mounts on top of the tunnel.

Here's a picture. The purple one picture is my old P206 and the blue is of another 206 with the knots2u fairing. The fairing also fits around the nose strut tighter and hides the shimmy dampener, but I didn't get a picture of that. Just the reduced bulge. It definitely looks better IMHO, and I'm sure it would help cruise speed a bit.

It is interesting. I'll ask th owner is h noticed a speed difference. Personally, I can't see it being worth it. I'd rather put the money towards Quasar tips.

Re: Cessna 205 - A worthy and affordable 6-seater

My first experience in a "heavy" airplane was a C-205. It was very affordable to rent because it was older and required less maintenance than a C-206 or 180/185. Being able to fly with five or six people in an airplane was cool back then...

Re: Cessna 205 - A worthy and affordable 6-seater

Anyone on here know of a field approval for floats or skis? I saw one in EDO's float book and when I inquired about it they said that they only tested it and never finished up since the 206 came out. My father has one and I'd like to know if anyone thinks it could be possible? Thank you in advance for you opinion.

Please post what you find out. You might ask rfinkle. He’d probably know. Or TangoFox. Skis are definitely something I’d be interested in down the road.
