Chicken Strip Repair, Sep 1st, Need Volunteers

The RAF has approval from the Death Valley NPS to do some maintenance on the Chicken Strip this coming Saturday Sep-1st. I would like to get it done as early as possible like last November so we’re finished by Noon at the very latest. Temps are expected to be in the low 100s. If you can help please call or e-mail me direct at:

Cell: 661-345-7755
Office: 760-378-3870
e-mail: [email protected]

From everyone I’ve talked to it’s not in to bad a shape. Bring shovels and rakes to fill in the washouts and I have arrangements to drag the strip as before. I will need names of all the volunteers to list for the NPS. Let’s make this a good showing so the NPS will appreciate our prompt response and professionalism.

If you want to fly-in, Nose Draggers are NOT recommended. The strip is ROUGH and has some woop-tee-Doos in it, so only big wheeled bush planes with experienced pilots are recommended.

Any questions give me a call or e-mail.

It's too bad this is on labor day weekend. We already have plans. I'd love to fly down and help though.

The Saturday effort HAS BEEN POSPONED for one day until Sunday. Logistics and weather has forced the delay. So if anyone wants to come and help out SUNDAY morning early that would be great. I will post an update as soon as I can as to what we get done.

I'd love to get down there and help, but it ain't gonna happen for me this weekend. But I really want to support this effort so I'm gonna send the RAF a few bucks this time instead... Thanks to the volunteers that can get there this weekend. I hope to get there in October.

Did the work party happen? Haven't checked the site over the past week due to work and some issues at home.
I know most want it re-opened asap but with current temps I will not be venturing that way til late sept the soonest.

I'd be honored to donate one; I really wanted to join the work party but already had other commitments. Great job in smoothing out the runway and thanks to all of you who made it happen! =D> =D> =D>

Is there somebody close willing to put it up as it will be probably 2 months before I get over that way? Aircraft spruce sells 13" and 15" long-life models. Take your pick and I'll have one shipped to who ever can put it up. :D

Get with Rick, PacerPilot and make arraignments with him, we found a volunteer that hangs on the http://www.salinepreservation.org/ that was going out there this weekend and he did the dragging. I flew PacerPilot and another friend of his to the CS the dragging was done by the time we got there we finished up kicking the rocks off the runway. The sock is barely functional and hanging by about a 1/3rd at the ring.

I rewarded the dragger with about an hour flight over and around the Valley and 40 lbs of ice. There are some whoop de does but not too bad.

GREAT JOB FOLKS!!!

FYI, there is a replacement windsock with Lizard Lee that I brought in a year or so ago.

Lets all make a donation to the RAF!
