Grassstrippilot has reported that the windsock at the chicken Strip is getting pretty raged and needs replaced. I can’t get there for a while so if anyone gets by the Chicken strip please measure the diameter of the sock and let me know so I can get a sock for the strip.

I got a message that the chicken strip sock opening diameter is about 19 1/2 inches.

Hi,
I'm the guy who went out and measured it. A slightly more accurate dimension is 19 3/4" O.D. The hoop is approx 1/8-3/16 diameter, and is somewhat bent. I straightened it out a bit, and some places measured a bit under 19 3/4, but if it were perfectly round I think it would be 19 3/4.
PS: I'm new here. I found this board researching the chicken strip before I went. The strip is in good condition. Some of the gravel in the turnaround area at the top is soft. I took my Mooney in there and spent two great nights sleeping out and enjoying the springs. My first trip to that valley, and it was quite enjoyable.

Thanks for doing that.
I plan on going down there in a couple weeks, I'll replace it if it hasn't been done by the time I get there. They seem to come in 18" and 24" and bigger.

Lynn Sanderson (Dirtstrip) passed away from natural causes in May 2013. He was a great contributor and will be missed dearly.

That's one of those new invisible windsocks-- keeps the lookie-loo's out of the low-profie airstrips. It's chemically treated to turn bright orange with more than 5 knots crosswind.

Ha Ha. Guess Marietta International needs one too. Though invisible works there pretty well.

c170pete,
I'll check and see if the wind socks I have are 20-inchs. If not it could take a few days to get one. If your going down in a couple of weeks and don't here from me, let me know and I just might have a sock for you to put up.
