I've got room in the 182 if anyone is in the Reno area, trying to figure out how to get down.....pretty short notice though..

I'm not figurin' out the picture link thing quite yet....

Yep! Diesel was $3.89 :D

Also on the 395....... lot's of big wrecks from I-15 through Adalanto often. Last Sunday or Monday there was a hit and run with two people dead.

Thanks to everyone that is there working on the strip today. I would have loved to have made it, but an expectant wife has me home bound. I hope all goes well. Be safe and I can't wait to see the pics when it is opened!

I'm here stuck at work, wish I could have been there. It looks like a very productive day.
Now I'll have to check it out on my next day off. :D

Re: Chicken Strip Work Party (SAT OCT-15)

I just got home form Chicken Strip.

By the time a arrived at the strip about 8:30am, Rick (701driver) Desert Rat, NVflyer and some others (sorry  , I can't remember all the names  ) pretty much did most of the work. I just helped kick some small rocks off the strip as Rick was smooth grading the strip. It's really in excellent shape! Kind of soft in some spots as they filled in some low spots (didn't have water and compaction). But I wouldn't think twice about landing my 182 there. Heck, it's in better shape than some of the backcountry strips in ID and Eastern OR :P

Anyway, had a great time and great to meet a few more BCP guys (701driver, NVflyer, Desert Rat, 172heavy and Glidergeek....... I already know him but figured I'd mention him :D ). I'm not much into the scenery around the hot springs    , but this is a really cool strip in the middle of a huge desert valley surrounded by huge mountains. A plus for me to see fighter jets buzzing around up high and low (just wish they came lower!!).

We took a ton of pictures, measurements and notes. So I'm sure Chicken Strip will be updated on Shortfield.com in the coming days.

Re: Chicken Strip Work Party (SAT OCT-15)

A request: If you by chance know it, when you update shortfield, could you add the slope of the runway? A couple of us were talking and wondering what it is.

Thanks!

It's about a 3-4% uphill slope when your landing to the north. Shortfield has the length as 1500' feet. But Russ and I measured 1300' feet usable.

The "nose draggers" handle OK there? That was my only thought with some of the soft spots. But, not much different than any other soft field.
