I'm not sure there's a better way to communicate such an important message. This weighs heavy on my heart everytime I'm forced to be exposed to one of these examples. Thanks for sharing. I hope others will value this content as much as you (and I) do.

Re: Critically Important for BCP Content Contribution

Kevin, thanks for bringing this issue out into the open. As hard as it is to admit, I have occasionally given in to the temptation of VVS. It may feel really good when I'm I the moment, but the results always speak for themselves - and of course, there's always the guilt forever after. With Facebook and Youtube and Vimeo so popular these days, the potential for one of our lapses to follow us around in perpetuity is always there.

The danger is real, people! We only have ourselves to blame. [-X [-X

I'm guilty. Just today actually.

I know better than this, dammit! I'm sorry guys. I let everyone down. But, it feels good to admit it out loud.

I try to only post VV to Instagram. The Instagram format supports VV. Instagram is not helping the spread of this virus.

Funny, but it's actually pretty simple to rotate and crop a video with free software like VLC.

While that is true, VVS is not merely an orientation accident-- the footage is cropped 90 degrees out in 9:16. To recrop to achieve 16:9, you end up omitting so much frame area that there's little point.

Smartphone UX and ergonomics is largely to blame. I think phones should be setup to record normal 16:9 horizontal video when gripped vertically. I speculate that the motivator for manufacturers is greater viewport area during recording. I still think they should add a toggle or something to force horizontal format. The sensors are also not square, they are usually 4:3, so in doing that they would crop and lose effective resolution.

That video though is a riot. [emoji41]

The gorilla and this one are the two videos I post frequently to VVS posters...

I think if you're filming with your smartphone, then you're not after a top quality product either way :D

While mini-camera technology is amazing these days, most times there is no substitute for a larger lens diameter to capture the very best quality, especially in low light.

Now - someone post some awesome video from their GoPro to prove me wrong

That was awesome. Even Sadie and Tyler got a kick out of it. I was just hoping the whole time I wasn't going to be regretting any new words they might learn!
