My pops is always grumbling about the million ways there are in this country for 'them' to take your money… I've always looked at it as the million more choices in life we have over some less fortunate
Rather than try to see the evil in marketing, I appreciate the fact that they are trying to keep, or more importantly get new people interested in GA… unfortunately , at the end of the day I'm going to have to agree that starting with a clean slate would have been a million times better… Not because they're low wing, that's been done… not the stall speed, that sucks, but could probably easily be improved…
For me it's all the glass, and what's left around it. If I only include people I know from this forum that have come to a stop upside down in an airplane, the number is still enough to come to the conclusion that this type of canopy and backcountry flying (whatever your definition of that may be) is probably not a wise combination… FWIW, if I include the folks I fly with that are not on this forum the odds get even worse
Oh, and Mike, I really don't grasp the negative of long high lift wings, those are qualities I like in a boon docker. Maybe you were alluding to the limit in landing area choices afforded by the wingspan? Now that I think about it, the floating comment was weird to me too… one highly experienced / knowledgable poster says on landing it stalls fast (not flying so great), the other extremely experienced and knowledgable poster says it floats (flying pretty damned good still) which is it? damn i feel dumb sometimes….
But again… yep, starting from scratch would have been a way better plan… Barring that, if they just redesigned the location of the steering wheel, they just might have a modern day Jodel, a low winger with a rich history of 'real' backcountry flying
Take care, Rob
