Dirty Devil windsock

This is a question for the Utah guys.
The last time I was at dirty devil, the windsock was in tatters at the base of the pole.

I'd like to buy a new one and install it as a donation to this fantastic place but I don't know what size the frame is.
Can anyone wager a guess as to the diameter of the windsock frame? 13"? 12"? Bigger?

If I could get close the right size I could make it work.
Let me know if you have an idea.
Thanks,
RR

18" by 5' is pretty standard for the small ones.

That's the one! I would guess a 12" frame too.

Check with Aeronautics.

I don't know about Utah, but here in Idaho they have an entire web page where you can order free stuff (like windsocks) for use in Idaho airports.

Re: Dirty Devil windsock

The Utah backcountry pilots have replacement flags and frames. I have one in my hangar with Dirty Devils name on it. I just forgot to take it down there last time I went. You need to take a ladder with you to change it, unless you can pull the pole out. I tried last time I was there and couldn't get the pole to budge.

Re: Dirty Devil windsock

Ok guys, it's on. Sunday the 28th we'll meet at happy canyon at 9:30 am. From there we'll head over to DD and put up the new sock.
Feel free to join us. We might hit up some other strips in the area afterwards if conditions permit.
Let me know if you think you could make it and I'll look out for you.

Re: Dirty Devil windsock

Most that fly the backcountry here in Alaska don't mess with wind socks as the bears knock them down or they just get blown over. Instead, we use sticks with surveyors tape attached to blow in the wind. Here is a wind stick at Wolverine Mountain along the Chitastone River.

That may be the coolest place on earth to be a wind stick! Thanks for posting the picture Nizina.

Thanks Rez and others for going out and putting up a new windsock at Dirty Devil. Glad the weather was nice.

Re: Dirty Devil windsock...IS UP!

I managed to convince a couple of new Maule converts to tag along. We had a visitor stop by as you can tell by his video in 'where did you fly today'
The weather was perfect, clear skies and not too much snow on the ground.

You can see the new sock flying just above the wing.

After putting up the sock and eating lunch, we walked the strip and filled holes and removed rocks.
Next stop was Angel point, a bit of snow on the ground but only an inch or so.

A great day out with friends. Thanks for all the help and advice, the new sock fits perfectly.

Thanks for putting up the new flag - it looks great! I watched the video in Where did you fly today, too. I wish I could have been there, the weather looked a lot better in Southern Utah than it did on the Wasatch front.
