Ethanol free gasoline will probably completely disappear
Nothing happens without it. Discuss fuel locations, quality, alternatives, and anything else related to this critical resource.
I live just a mile below the PA state line in Maryland (an ethanol state) and there's a guy who owns a gas station just on the PA side of the line he sells ethonal free gas. In conversations with him and the truckers who fill his tanks they claim it is not mandatory for him to sell ethanol tainted gas. It has something to do with the treating of his underground tanks. He says he's not going to sell ethanol fuel untill they force him to, I don't blame him in the last 6 months I've sent him a few pilots and they all leave there with anywhere from 50 to 100 gallons.

Hey, maybe thats why no ethanol!
It all goes in the vodka!!
Like I said, saw the sign, figured I'd pass the word.
They may drill in Russia, but they ain't Russian owned. The owners are Israelis. I have a good friend who works for them, in Russia 30 on and 30 off. He's been there since '96 or '97. There is no oil or gas shortage there, believe me. There's only a shortage of
cheap oil.

Does your friend say anything about a pipeline being needed to transport oil through Afghanistan down towards India so oil tankers can be loaded?

Where he is, they bring the pipeline with them as they go and the oil heads to the Caspian. If they need to do something, they do it. No EPA or assorted other bullshit. They keep the corn (or potato) squeezin's for drinking, as it should be.
Incidentally, I understand that China is buying up the futures over there while we are screwing around over here trying to placate the greenies by building cars that run on AA batteries and 90 proof. Hope our grand kids have a taste for soy sauce.

My own take on this Ethanol subject is that it is just the politicians placating the Greenies. We had cars 30 years ago that got 50mpg and we had the same fuel, foreign oil BS.I am 100% in agreement with taking care of the planet but that is not what this is about. It is about MONEY and POWER and the average person is only in the equation to have our pockets picked and do the sh#t work.Don't waste your time thinking about it just go burn as much fuel as you can afford and have fun at it.Unless we have a total economic collapse or a revolution and get some people with common sense AND balls in control it is just gonna get worse. And I am an optimist.

I get very nervous whenever the government mandates a particular trend involving commerce. Personally, I think this whole ethanol thing is a load of political crap. I admit I dont know the whole story, and it depnds on who you talk to to get a certain bend on it. But my gut feeling tells me it stinks. And the way things are these days in this poitical quagmire, sometimes that's all you have to go on.

I need to give this info to the ethanol debate so it can continue. There is a second generation ethanol derivative based fuel that contains no ethanol itself but has been developed and tested by a company called Swift Fuels and partnered in testing with Teledyne Continental. Very promising, and now I need to say thank you to all who supported ethanol through its infancy so this could be developed as cellulosic second generation renewable avgas and it can be made from feed stock that is not food based. But until FAA standards are set we will need some 100LL and some 93 octane unleaded for our buzzards. Even Big Food should like this.
Happy 4th to all

Lynn Sanderson (Dirtstrip) passed away from natural causes in May 2013. He was a great contributor and will be missed dearly.
Looks like Ethanol free gas will go away in Kansas in the next few months!!
All because of the 2007 law. I am not a 100% sure about other states but I think this will happen this year in Almost all states.
I call EAA , AOPA and my Rep.and Senaters in DC. With out a great many others doing the same nothing will happen and E0 will be no more this year.
We need a law that make all 91 oct. E0 !!!!!!!!

Done.
I was filling a couple of 5 gallon jugs last week at the 116th st grocery just south of kawo. The station owner came out and asked me if i only come here for ethanol free gas. I said yes. He said he had just got a dump yesterday and that would be his last one.He also told me that he figured about 80 percent of his business was from people wanting E free gas and he will probably be closing the doors because E free was his niche, and he cant compete with the nearby grocery chain stores. What a bummer. On to e-mail my state reps now.

Just signed the petition. My flying will be severely limited if E-free gas disappears.

For those of you in the SW Washington/Portland area there is a station in Battle Ground, Wayside Gas, that sells E free premium. Last I checked it was $3.94/gallon. He says he pays 25 cents more a gallon to get E free. I don't have the STC so don't run it but the station owner is a hangar neighbor and fellow pilot.
Also, for those of you who think ethanol is to placate the "green" folks, you're very mistaken. Ethanol additive legislation was driven through congress by big agribusiness that owns and/or controls 90% of the corn production in this country. Follow the money....."green folks" don't have that kind of backing.

I talked to my local gas station in Spokane today and have plenty of 91E0 for $3.59. When asked if they had any notice of shortages or elimination of E0, they said nothing going on that they knew of. Still, I think it is wise to get this petition filled out as well as start sending letters to your govt representatives, both state and federal. Educate them on the harm this will do to general aviation not to mention all the other undesirable aspects of ethanol based fuels. Maybe the easier battle is not to fight the ethanol but to just make it clear to keep E0 available.

Sent an E mail to my state reps this morning at 10:15. Told them my story about the 116 street station possibly going out of business by not having ethanol free gas. Also told them i run about 75% 92 E0 mixed with avgas,in my airplane and my compression increased 1to 2 pounds in a couple of cylinders due to the lack of lead in the valves. Told them that alot of other airplanes run E0 if avaliable too, and thats alot less lead falling out the sky.(Yep,played the falling lead/sky card). Also two dirt bikes, a seadoo and a riding lawnmower that wont run right.
I recieved a phone call at 4:35 this afternoon(lead/sky card maybe) from Washington state senator Kirk Pearsons office. They are trying to draft a bill to make sure E0 gas is still availible for people who choose to use it,Maybe as soon as next week. He said he tried when he was in the house but couldn't get any "traction." He is now in the senate and will try to a bill put forth and get this passed.
Contact you state reps, Bring this problem to the forefront, maybe they will listen. Mine did.

You anti ethanol petitioners scare me a little. First, ethanol is not going away because the oil companies need it so that they can produce cheaper, poor quality, gasoline that needs ethanol's attributes. What I see happening, thanks to you folks, is ethanol plants that are owned by people like me will eventually wind up being owned by the oil companies. Then the world will be good again.
P.S. Just saw a view of Salt Lake City on the news last night---looks like Beijing China to me. If all the cars there were using E30, it would not be as bad. Not saying it would be clear air, but it would be better. I remember being stuck with my 180 in Boise in 1989 with the same conditions.

That's true, E30 would really cut down on pollution here in SLC as half the vehicles would be in the shop!

You're pretty funny---that never crossed my mind. Actually, my experience for the last almost 12 years has been no problems. I assume, when you tried E30, that you had to take your's to the shop---what broke?

Marty, I don't think anyone is advocating that ethanol be made to go away. I know I'm not-- I just want to ensure that E-zero gas continue to be made available for those of us who want and/or need it. Do you feel that is unreasonable?
