Custer State Park allows camping but there is no fuel there. Custer County at Custer is a great place to stop, has showers not sure if they allow camping on the field. Outstanding service, short drive to faces.

Lynn Sanderson (Dirtstrip) passed away from natural causes in May 2013. He was a great contributor and will be missed dearly.

At first glance, I thought this was a rant about dogs, open range cattle, and their owners.

I've camped at ...
.....Custer State Park airport several times. Nice and quiet no one around, great star gazing, outhouses....even a beat up hanger that you might escape into during a storm. The airport is fenced but the Pronghorns will jump the fence and graze after dark. Their glowing eyes in the flashlight beam spooked my oldest son many years ago. Haha. The Bison herd usually comes along the western fence around sunrise....most likely you will be awakend by their snorting. What more does an air camper need?
A local guy rents old cars for around $35.00 per day. I've rented from him several times and have yet to meet him. He just leaves the cars at the airport with the keys in the ignition. When you are done....you park it there and walk away. Eventually he bills your credit card. I no longer have his number but the folks at the Park Game Lodge know him. Excellent food at the Game Lodge by the way.. It is about 10 minutes from the airport by car.
Old Lincoln two different times a Pontiac the other. Never had any problems. Enjoy the park while you are there.

Living the Dream
Made it this last week-end!!!!!!
Camped at KCUT, the FBO is great, nice people ,showers, rental car available.
They had a Firefighting Op going on at the airport, but we were still welcomed. The fire-fighters were even concerned that we were having a good time.
Beautiful Flying week-end.
