Feels like summer but its winter!

Just a few days left here in Kalifornia / Nevada for me then north bound to start our heli ski season. Had to take advantage of the perfect flying weather and the freedoms we have. It was a beautiful day in the high desert today. Temps were in the mid to high 60's, no wind and glassy smooth air. It just doesn't get much better.

Next up was a lake bed we call "Dead Cow"...we did get some light precip two nights ago and that kept the dust down making for some perfect hard pack

Next up was a fun little creative LZ at one of the hot springs out on Black Rock. You land here just past the hump on the narrow little dirt road and get her stopped in about 400'. Pretty straight forward. Just narrow and bumpy...sort of

And then you come to this spring that runs about 104-105 with crystal clear water...

And then we needed to exercise our freedom

Any day you come home with mud on the wings is a good day...

Good to see some of your flying pics again! If you go flying this weekend before you leave let me know, I might be able to make it up there.

"Do I see a drought coming?"

One look at the sorry snow-pack and still record-low reservoir levels tells the story:

I better get back over to Austin again, soon, before big-thermal-season arrives...prematurely.

Love the pictures! Thanks. 8)

Very warm air/water in Oregon and California. The "little boy" is returning (El niño). Went body surfing, today (Friday) at "Rats Beach", Torrance, with no wetsuit and its February. Water 63F / air 75F

They're still building houses out here in the desert too. I drove Donner pass way back in about February 1981 on a return trip from a job in Colorado. The snow was stacked up by the plows over the summit at least 20 feet high on both sides of the road. Eighty/Eighty-one of course was a "Big" winter, but packs like that were common then. We are about 10 years into a completely normal 30 year drought cycle in the Southwest without a care in the world. It might be a good time to invest in a golf course. We got about 30 of them here in the valley.
