Finished the deal, bought a Cessna 185

I'd been working on this deal for a bit now and it's been finalized for a while but today I took possession of my new to me 1976 Cessna 185. I'd been needing some additional space and payload over my 59 180B for a while now, I looked hard at 206s but in the end this plane fit the bill. Here she is, bunch of STC's on her but performance wise it's probably the Sportsman STOL, the EDO 3430's and the 3-blade Mac that matter most. She's a high time airframe but an immaculate bird, really beautifully maintained all her life. Can't wait to start the next series of family adventures with her.
PS-if anyone wants half ownership in a 59 180B based at Pitt, call me

WOW! High time? Sure doesnt look like it. Very nice! Curious, how much time does she have on her? All she needs is gas and BAS harness’s. Love the paint!

I had a 1976 185, good year.

Thanks Kurt. She has just over 14,000 hrs. I may get some BAS harnesses, for now at least she has single inertia reel shoulder belts which is an improvement over my 180. She came with full tanks.

Congratulations on owning a really beautiful airplane! My 185 is apparently just a baby with 9800 hours; most time was accrued with floats or skis on Lake of the Woods with Baudette Flying Service.

Nice!

A friend of mine with 50 years of Alaska flying experience says the only plane better than a Cessna 180 is a Cessna 185!

My dad had a 207 with 21,000 hours on it. Flew great and was actually in great shape. I think you are just getting warmed up with 14,000 hours.

Mine has been a local commercial plane with Seair, float ops up and down the BC coast. All kinds of salt water float ops but not a bit of corrosion. She was actually their first plane back in the day, it was just Peter and this 185.

Here's a little something that came with the plane that I haven't seen very often. The original hubcaps are still with the wheel gear.

Re: Finished the deal, bought a Cessna 185

Took her out for a bit of a run yesterday. All through the Gulf Islands. The weather has been so poor up until last week that all I'd managed was a few circuits to get familiar. Then the weather gets nice and I had all kinds of work waiting for that, so finally yesterday I got to really take her out for a fly.

That ones a beauty! Congratulations! There are very few things not to like about a good solid 185.

Re: Finished the deal, bought a Cessna 185

Nice bird! Check your serial number against the Cessna model year to confirm it's a 76. The 6 pack instrument panel layout, dropped yoke, engine instruments under the flights instruments, and cowl flaps on the floor next on the flap handle tunnel are all features that began in 77. It's possible it may have rolled off the assembly line in 76, but could actually be a 77 model. Enjoy!
