Re: Stupid Guy Kills Five in RV-10

CFIT ? Doesn't look like he stalled?

...said that the wreckage of the airplane might have been thrown across a pine forest area about 300 feet in diameter, AP reported. "We don't have an intact plane," Peacock reportedly said. "There's wreckage everywhere in this small area. It just disintegrated, basically," he added...

The AP article this article was built from reported the accident happened shortly after takeoff. Which for some reason was at 0230.

Weird.

5 people in a 4-place AC, dark, no pilots license. Then there is the other stuff we all suspect in a situation like that. MTV is on target I believe.

A true tragedy and condolences to the family's. A very sad day.

Yes - I wondered why I had never heard of an RV which was signed off for 5 people.

Perhaps I'm jumping to conclusions, but a few pieces of evidence suggest recklessness and disrespect for the lives of others. 1) they took of at 2:30 AM 2) five people in a four place airplane 3) no pilot's license. I may be wrong though.

Re: Stupid Guy Kills Five in RV-10

To the guys defense, an experimental doesn't have seat limits. Being the builder, he may have put accommodations for three in the back or even a jump seat. He may have been under gross and within CG limits for all we know. Not that any of us would EVER take off over gross or not within CG limits.

Flying at night is just that: flying at night. Nothing reckless there either.

Not having a license...maybe - if that part is even true. I know we read it on the internet but, even the Internet has been known to get facts wrong every once in a while. But plenty of people have safely operated airplanes without US government approval. That doesn't mean the guy had no clue what he was doing nor that we should assume he was a reckless idiot.

This may have simply been an engine failure at the wrong time that ended in a terrible tragedy.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt until the NTSB says otherwise.

I appreciate your perspective Bagarre. There is little value to my stream of vitriol following such a tragedy, and I am usually one to wait for reliable facts to come out. I did change the thread title.

X2, I would probably bet on liquid courage in pursuit of some female attention.

What a waste of life and potential.
